Yes the end plates and cords are correct with your pic on the left thanks for pics.

I kind of think I get what you are saying - the squeeze plate is at the bottom of the strainer (?). A picture is worth a thousand words, right. I will restring everything with new cord when it comes. I'll get new snares if I still have the buzzies and rattles. If I still have a problem I'll give up and tape the friggin snares.

I have to deal with ice dams on the house now...

Alright, here`s a couple thousands words, note: I wrap one time all the way around not just hoop once, leaves room to reinstall after I trim excess off. Also note: If your snarebed is not as wide as the wire plate and touches the edges, you need to change the wire plate or snarebed. Notice SONOR made the bed wide enough for 22 strain plate.

Are all of the wires that you are trying 20 strand? I believe they originally came with 18 strand. Not sure if that is part of the problem but I am running original 18 wire ludwigs on my Supra and never had any buzz problems.

My two cents - I have my cord on the strainer end as shown [pic#1], on the snare shown [pic#2]. No rattle. The butt end is a strap.

One trick I've used, and I know you don't want jerry-rigging, but this works for boomy rooms where the snare is too snarey - take a 3X6" piece of paper, fold it so it straddles over the snares [with drum batter side up], de-activate wires so you can slide the paper in there, re-activate wires to hold paper in place. You can move the paper in and out from the center of the head for different effects.

Okay that didn't work for some reason. Here's the pic.

See now when I do a strap, I come up behind the squeeze plate then back down in between the base (strap end facing down) and tighten it so there is a fold to pull on that wont slip. If the plate is on the front, I come up in front of the squeeze plate then back down between (strap end facing down) then tighten.

Believe it or not, I know what you're talking about! :) Man this stuff is hard to articulate...

As to your actual procedure, I can see how that would aid in holding the strap in place during installation. Does it have a further benefit wrt how the wires sit on the head? With the squeeze plate on the inside [your first instance], there's that extra curl toward the shell...seems like maybe that would help.
