Tell me what is wrong with this Ludwig kit... Last viewed: 1 second ago

I see parts of a Blue Note setup and what I would assume was a Downbeat 20" bass drum. The kit doesn't appear to go together based on the sizes, but then again they have this listed as a '66 and there is no catalog in the guide pages for '66, only '67 which i didn't think differed much. I guess if all the serial numbers are close, or the date stamps are identical, or the chance that this kit was ordered custom back then.... I don't know. I just have a hard time thinking this was a stock kit. What do you guys think?

Seller's prices are on the high side overall in my opinion. Bass drum wrap seems slightly darker to my eyes.

Oh yeah, they're always high. It's the location...

The rail consollette also threw me because there are 2 mountable toms in the mix...

One of those mounted toms was added later.That was a 3 piece kit originally,because of the bass drum cymbal mount and the rail consolette.It could have been ordered with the bongos,or put together as a kit,from the dealer,custom ordered,but not a catalog item.

FYI,the bass drum is a classic model,and the term downdbeat applies to a drum set configuration,like 20/12/14/14.

The writer of the original post says that he has a hard time believing that this drum set was a "stock kit". To me, it's like fingernails on the chalkboard whenever someone posts in a drum forum something to the effect that "this assemblage of drums could not possibly be legitimate because it is not pictured in a catalog, and given a name as an official outfit". I think that there's a great likelihood these drums came out of the store stock where the drums were sold or were ordered from Ludwig's warehouse stock.

No matter how far you push the envelope, it is still stationery.

I have seen dealer assembled drum kits,that are non-catalog items.The kit was a keystone double bass set with 2-9x13 toms,2-14x22 bass drums and a 16x16 floor tom all blue sparkle and a 5x14 supra.The toms were mounted on a floor stand and the bass drums both had consolete rail mounts.My high school friend who bought the kit got it from a closet sized mom and pop music store in Jamaica Queens..This was a perfect example of a kit that was dealer assembled/ custom order.Legit ..yes,catalog no,but as long as it's original and there's aren't any extra holes,that's just fine.

Still really nice.

I have a kit from 66 with 20/13/16 that was ordered from factory that way. Kick has 2 sets of spurs & both FT & TT have top & bottom mufflers from factory. If you had the money, you could probably order whatever you wanted. Like now!
