Yes that's good logic to me. 20x24 then a whopping 22x26. 24x28 anybody?? Monster!

Well, looks like Alex Van Halen, anyway...:)

Yes...although maybe not always quite enough ~room~ for it. :)

Definitely a fan of the classic sizes here. Currently all about 20/12/14, because Club Dates. :)Here's an interesting thing I've been thinking about these long bass drums - if you start with a 14X18" jazz BD, and add 2 inches to both measurements, you get 16X20", and then 18X22".....so I wonder if the modern long bass drums are sort of "blow-ups" of, or based on the "aspect ratio" of, jazz bass drums, only bigger. I mean I wonder if that's where they got the idea....maybe not; just a thought.Mitch

If you hold your diameter to depth ration of 9:7 (ie 18x14") you end up with 20x15.56, 22x17.11, 24x18.67, 26x20.22 and 28x21.78. So not quite what you were suggesting but it does correlate with those 22x17 kicks Yamaha does. Seem to see a few 24x18s these days too and that's pretty close to the ratio.

That being said, give me a 13x9" in a snare stand, a 16x16" floor (and maybe an 18x16" to boot) plus a 26x14", 24x14" or even a little 22x14" and I'm happy.

For me its a bit skinny at 12" depth, but some like that.

Haha yes, so really, 9.86 is the new 11.58....altho I just made those numbers up. :) But of course, the drumco's just add an inch or two, so my term "aspect ratio" was not strictly correct...

Gecko I know what ya mean altho that 25X12" BD I cut down to 22" sure sounds good!

Yeah some do like a 12" BD. I guess Orchestral BD's which are 28" up are 12" deep and rumble like thunder.

My clubdates are a very powerful kit I don't need more my Hollywood seems all most too much but that's it for me

April 2nd 1969 scarfed pink champagne holly wood and 65/66 downbeat snare, and , supra same year very minty kit old pies
66/67 downbeat with canister
Super 400 small round knob
1967 super classic obp

once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.

Same here 100%. Club Dates are the core for me. I like to have a 22" BD and 16" FT for rock shows, IF the club is any decent size - really it's just more visual presence I guess...and stronger FT leg brackets if you're sharing the kit. :)

I used a little 10-12-14-18 kit I picked up for a little festival gig the other day. First time I have used it. I worked real well.

My go to player is 12-14-20 Rogers Tower kit.

Don't believe I will ever go away from using that Tower snare.

I did feel like a giant behind that little kit. :)

Not a Guru... just interested..
