The Floor Tom Last viewed: 2 minutes ago

Thinking about it, for a while ( years ago ) I used to use a 20" bass drum as a floor tom. I taped a 10" Remo muffling ring to the center of the head and man, woah the low that came off that drum. Must say though, once I drifted from being in Progressive Rock / Metal bands, the 20" went back to being a bass drum.

As I'm sure you have all guessed, this was a tongue in cheek post, I also love my floor tom.

Slingerland 16x16 from '47. 'Radio King' engraved single flange hoops top and bottom. Coated Emperor on top, coated Ambassador underneath. Batter just below what I'd call medium (ie higher than 'normal' rock low tuning) and bottom maybe a 3rd or 4th higher... not exact in where it's sitting. No tape or muffling, internal muffler wound out and not touching. Pearl Iso feet on the straight legs to open it up a little more. My guitarist walks over and hits it a few times every rehearsal and says "damn... that drum... that's it".

I did that too! There's even a video of it on youtube! It looks like I was about nine years old! [love to ride that floor tom...]

This is a great thread. As great as multiple floor toms are. That's how great it is.
