Item for sale. Nice dude wants it, needs time to pay, has a matching kit. Get the phone call, dude #2 has cash and ups the offer. Just great. Am I a nice guy or just an idiot? :(
The old sellers dilemma Last viewed: 5 minutes ago
Tough call ...But I think the world would be a better place if there was more trust and less of that do anything to make a quick buck attitude. I completely understand getting it ($) while its presented to you, but to use ones gut feeling and go with it, usually pays off on multiple levels. As long as its not taking food of the table, I'd go with the guy who needs time, even if he ends up flaking.
All the best with the transaction.

If you are ok with giving the first guy a little time to pay off the drum, then he has first call on it. You can explain the situation to the first guy and if he's ok with it, sell it to Mr. Cash. Keeping things honest, and fair is what makes for a good transaction. I always try to do business in a way that leaves all concerned with a smile of satisfaction. Doesn't always work out that way... but I try nonetheless.

+1 on this John."first come-first served" has always been the right of way for me and i don`t sell drums or anything for that matter. It`s just a personal way of life with me to treat all equally in this manner, inspite of losing monitorily. But when the $ come into play it always tips the playing field for alot of us and understandable-we have to pay the bills. This situation will always be different for all of us, but i know where my morals lay and i have to stick with them.Hope for your best decision in this matter and best of luck.

Let guy #1 put down a non refundable. That gives him an incentive not to flake. If no go...... then guy 2 gets it.

i agree with all of the above its not uncommon for a wish list with empty pockets we have all been there and most of the time if we can work it out with no regrets that's the key no regrets buyers remorse can set in quickly when your in lay away, it happens all the time at wall mart put something in lay away and get a refund when you find out you don't have the doe...unless you know the person real well its usually does not work out and then there's the battle to collect and its just complicated more doe and cash it rules win win good luck but nice guys always finish last...

once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.
First in with cash or Pay Pal wins.
If #1 wants it bad enough he'll pay for it with PayPal and pay back his credit card when he can. I got strung out on a deal with a very nice guy and it drove me nuts after a while.

Assuming buyer #1 is not someone you know. Also, did you agree on a time? Kind of depends on how much money we're talking about to begin with, and how much more the other offer is. A $100 cymbal sale and buyer 2 is offering $150? Probably stick with buyer 1, but hurry up with the sale and get a deposit in the meantime, if you haven't already.
Now if the stakes are higher, like a hundred or hundreds more in terms of the two prices, then that's different. I'd inform buyer 1 and give him the opportunity to put down a legit deposit and then agree on a speedy payment time, otherwise, I gotta move on.
Kind of on you both to ensure the sale happens. If I'm a buyer and it's something I really want like that, you bet I'm going to put down a deposit and agree on a time. But at the same time, if the seller calls me up and says someone is offering him double with cash now, I'm going to say "I hope you'll honor our deal, but if you don't, I get it."
But I'd never just sell something out from under someone without trying to work it out first. That's just pure evil.

Very good advice.
