There have been many posts on this subject before, but I needed to vent my ire once again at the shameful practices of those who split up a beautiful family of drums for only the sake of how much money they can make. As you can see, this seller is splitting up a beautiful Downbeat kit, in Oyster Blue, for no other reason than he can make more money. It's wrong I tell you, just wrong. OK, I feel a bit better... but not much!!

I totally agree! I just don't understand why anyone would split up a kit like this. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!

I agree. Someone just sold a Rodges 20/12/14/tower snare in Red Onyx on ebay this weekend. Looks same guy got them all, but how ****ed would you be if you got all but one?

Some people care a lot more about money than they do drums. Thank God I'm not one of those. Money's just a tool. Drums are food.

I sell kits as a whole, but I've parted out individual drums that were orphans or had a value of parts more so than the drum itself.

I try to sell the whole enchilada, as I am a drummer and would like to see a drummer appreciate the kit I sell them. I think you have to have a certain attachement to it, if not it's just something to sell.

I have some leftover parts from several Dynas that I've restored, swapped parts on, etc. The parts are being sold, as I don't want to sell an incomplete drum, but someone could use the indivdual parts maybe.

Its better to have people think you're an idiot, than to open your mouth and prove them wrong, unless you doubt yourself then speak away....

OK guys.

I agree -- I HATE to see a vintage set "orphaned" (did I spell that right?) and won't do it myself.

However, like it or not, it is about the money where MOST eBay sellers are concerned. And we do live in a free country, so anyone has the "right" to sell something as they wish.

Just for argument's sake, I would like to point out that I sell a LOT of orhpan drums on eBay. I also sold 3 SETS on eBay, just in the last two weeks of December. It is a whole lot easier to package one drum in one box than it is to package a set of drums in one box or ship a set of drums in multiple boxes. I've done it both ways with sets, and I've had UPS screw things up and deliver "sets" to defferent locations. And let me tell you it's a LOT LESS of a hassle to just sell the drums one at a time.

So, yes, there are guys out there who care more about the money than they do about keeping "history" together. But I think you'll find that in any venture or venue.

I agree with all of the above but the bottom line is that the seller can do what he/she wants to with regards to their Ebay auctions. You will find this practice occurs more with non-drum collectors like antique dealers, estate dealers, etc.

I can see backing out an OBP snare drum from the drumset or some other matching snare but I agree that the toms/bass drum should remain intact.

I think the majority of these guys part-out these drums are not drummers.

The sad part of doing this is that once the set has been split up, it will never

be the same again. THEY SIMPLY DO NOT THINK LONG-TERM IN WHAT THEY'RE DOING.
