I have over 700 transactions on eBay, which are 90 percent selling. I have the occasional issue, but for the most part it's always good.
I ALWAYS recommend using insurance, shipping Parcel Post is the cheapest, but give options for shipping. I use 3 services: Parcel Post, Priority Mail (Flat rate boxes are very nice for lugs) and UPS.
Be realistic about shipping. Boxes, foam peanuts and tape cost money. You're shipping to them and you want it to arrive safely, so pack it that way and again, I recommend insurance. (it's your safety net in case of other persons stupidity, theft or laziness)
Make sure you let your buyers that some items may be disassembled for delivery. I had a Buyer complain about a pedal missing parts because I had disassembled it and didn't tell him, he said the parts got lost (they were taped to the pedal, doh!)
I always tell people I sell items for to take off 15 percent for eBay's fees and 15 percent for me from their total sold price and that will be there "take home". I prefer a B.I.N. with a Best Offer option price at a reasonable price (comparable to other similar items) then if it doesn't sell, I'll drop the price after a couple of weeks.
Even with all the fees, eBay is still the best option, with the safety net of PayPal to buy and sell. Just my opinion.
The more you sell, you may want to look into a Store option or if you sell enough little stuff, you will become a Power Seller and you'll receive discounts.
