1-those drums imprinted on you when you were younger.2-you are nostalgic for the era in which you began playing.3-you can afford more expensive collectable gear.4-you can't afford more expensive newer, quality gear.5-you are nostalgic for the drums your hero's/idols played.6-you didn't think there were any drums made after 1980, '77, '70, etc.7-you love to tinker, and restoring drums combines 2 favorite hobbies.8-you don't speak Japanese or chinese or korean9-you believe that newer drums are not made as well or don't sound as good.and finally...10- vintage? whats vintage, I bought this new!Which one are you? (or is there an 11,12, etc)

Years ago I was doing an airshow static display for the Army Reserves with a UH-1 at Dayton and I got a chance to climb into the cockpit of a B-25... I've climbed into a lot of airplanes, from Lear jets to 150's but I had never gotten a chance to sit down in a WW2 warbird and grab the yoke and throttles... so I pulled myself through the bomb bay and into the cabin... it was old... like climbing into a time machine. So I sat there, scanned the panel, then closed my hands on the controls. I thought about the journey that airplane might have taken to arrive at that point in time... and now I was a little part of the journey. I got that same kind of feeling when I picked up my first set of beat to crap old Slingerland's at a yard sale and started bringing them back... what did they go through to get to that point. I know it's corny... but it is what it is. These old drums got some soul.
