Unusual WFL pedal Last viewed: 16 hours ago

Hey, WFL experts.....Has anyone seen this type of pedal? It has some sort of bake-lite footboard, which has broken in a few places. I've never seen one of these before. Plastic on a footboard probably not a good idea. I'm guessing early 1940's?

Mark, pg237 of Mr. Cooks "The Ludwig Book," shows the exact same base and bottom brace with triangle riveted part and mid riveted brace to the footboard listed as, "1938-The first speed king:the WFL Twin Spedal Speed King Pedal. Features that would remain on updated versions of this pedal over 6 decades include the fully enclosed compression springs and reversible heel plate."

The Footboard on yours looks to be a prototype for that pedal. Upon closer look of the top part of the base your base has an extra hole on the top part next to where the beater goes in. Do you know what materials they worked with in the r&d dept. before the metal footboard was cast? My guess would be what you have in posession. Very Cool!

Is there a threaded hole under it to hold the cymbal striker? Looks like they did away with it for the drawn catalog pic. There is an actual picture of one next to the drawn cat. pic but I can't see the other side in it to see if there is a secondary hole like on Marks proto above.
