Vintage 1965 Ludwig Champagne Sparkle Last viewed: 1 hour ago

Well... I'll play devil's advocate here.

I PERSONALLY wouldn't spend 700 on this kit (because I'm into bigger sizes), but I don't see any extra holes, the wrap looks good and pink (they can get brownish over time), there's no rust present, the badges don't look messed with... I can certainly see him getting 700 with the right buyer. The club date tom doesn't bug me if it's from close to the same year (it has a low serial number, and even though I can't zoom in close enough I think the bass and floor are pre-serial) – and plus, the nickel hardware matches the rest of the kit.

I mean, if the tom had the correct lugs, he could probably get closer to a grand. Maybe not though.

Those cymbal arms aren't that uncommon. Might be tough to find a replacement hoop that matches the wrap, tho. But I don't think $700 is completely out-of-whack.

Not like some of the ones in my town, anyway:

http://minneapolis.craigslist.org/dak/msg/4546943053.html (Clear vista kit with repaired AND unrepaired cracks, big extra holes in every drum, sanded to make it a "matte" finish, etc)

http://minneapolis.craigslist.org/ank/msg/4544709495.html (club date stripped of its wrap and badges, missing bottom hoops and tension rods on toms, snare is missing its snares, "all easy fixes")

The 1st one is a good deal the wmp ludwigs. the other two I would pass on.

Yeah that's what I'm thinking too. Those Stewart drums aren't that rare/interesting and the slignerlands are cracked to hell my buddy told me.

They're sold. crying2-07

They were probably pretty cheap. Those drums are secretly great, and a lot of people still think that they were somehow 'worse' than the regular models.

Ah, fair enough.

I'm going to be checking out these two this weekend.

What are your thoughts?

I'm hoping to get one of these kits down to $600-$650. I'd throw down more but alas, a broke university student I am.

Cheers!

Yes, grab those white marine pearl Ludwigs if possible. They look really nice and if early 70's they could be 3 ply maple, or African mahogany. They will look beautiful cleaned up.

I would love to have them myself.

I want to check them out but she's like 2-3 hours away from me.

I checked out the Rogers Blue Onyx kit today. The guy lives 5 minutes away from me which is strange considering I live in a small town. He's a VDF'er as well! When I walked into his basement I was blown away by all the Rogers stuff he had... must have had like 3-4 kits, and a few snares as well. He makes his own kits too. Bill, if you see this say hey!
