Vintage drum prices cheaper or more expensive back in the day!! Last viewed: 3 hours ago

I'd say prices are lower but certain items still command "all of the money" as we say.

Ebay has been a great source for me to find rare vintage snare drums...sometimes I steal them, sometimes I pay fair and sometimes I pay up the old wazoo but all in all Ebay has been a treasure chest for old/rare vintage snare drums and other goodies such as old sticks, old pads, old drum keys, old catalogs, old bass drum pedals etc.

This is a toughie. If we didn't have the internet, we wouldn't have drums being stripped and sold by the piece about as fast as the stinkwood forests of Borneo are being quarter-sawn. But, you wouldn't be reading this absolute masterpiece of a response either, so I guess it is all a matter of perspective???Laughing HLaughing HLaughing H

I hear an interesting perspective from a guitar player about the value of vintage instruments. In a recession/depression or in hard economic times the value of vintage drums drops because more people are selling them which saturates the market. In good economic times people hang on to them so fewer are selling so the prices goe up.

Something interesting I heard

From RogerSling

The good ... it's a bit easier to locate a kit.The bad ... anytime you add people to a mix, inevitably you get crooks. So, while it's neato to be able to locate a kit easier with the influx of more people, the number of untrustworthy and unethical crooks has increased. That just plain sucks. We've had plenty of discussions on here about that very topic. It's one of the reasons this forum is such a special place. We can more easily identify those with which to do business ... that is to say, most all of us here are honest. The bad apples are easy to spot, as the worm gives 'em away toot sweet. Love this forum.

+1.The good and bad of the internet is information, and how that information is used. The sheer amount of accurate information, posted on sites like the VDF,while helpful to its members and those seeking to accurately identify grampas vintage Ludwigs, also makes it easier for humanoids to counterfeit vintage instruments.

Although it's tough to fool those of us who are educated, and experenced enough, there are those who love vintage drums, and because of that affection, can be fooled into buying a phony.Or even a genuine drum, where the seller either through ignorance or greed, failed to disclose vital information that would affect the value of a drum.

Although we all have seen cases where a little information is dangerous, there is enough info to assist honest and humanoid sellers alike. It's a double edged sword, and we all just have to careful from whom, and what we buy,and not be afraid to speak our mind when we see someone buying or selling something thats not quite right.

There would be no discussion like this without internet.

I would never buy or consider buying from US, thanks to internet - all done in seconds. This is really good that you can participate to garage sale few thousand miles from your home.
