My favorite Ludwig snare was a 68 Pioneer, bdp, wish I would have kept it!!!!
Vintage Ludwig snares....which do you prefer? Last viewed: 16 minutes ago
I've concluded that I just prefer their metal snares in general, as opposed to wood. Maybe it's the sensitivity and response. I like both the 5 and 6.5 sizes in all of the various Supra or BB models, and the Acro...depending on my mood!
The pioneer is cool for slow ballads or slow blues if you need an open type of sound...it's capable of a very unique sound in that aspect.
I love my '63 Acro with factory snare beds...then my '63 COA Supra (both have COB hoops). I've yet to play a Jazzfest or COB Supra, but I sure dig the 2 snares I have now!
my beloved 402 and my 10 lug classic 6 ply....
I love my 14x5 Supra.(HUGE thanks BillnVic)
Although I lust for a 14x5.5 Super Sensitive COB .
My first ever drum was a BO badge grey Acro.
I need to get another one some day.
Toss-up between my pre-serial COB and the hammered bronze supra. Both are outstanding snare drums. The only snares you'll ever need!

Always played my Ludwig 400,402 or Acro.
Just wondering though, did most of you take your favorite snare to gigs that supplied the kits.
I was truely addicted to their sounds and carried them with me depending on what the gig was(jazz ,rock whatever) depending on the venue.
Played the 400 most of all and the Acro second.

Great choices! I'd have to add 6.5 BB and Hammered Bronze...
I like the idea of carrying my own snare...so yes!
