Can anyone tell me what wood these 2 Sonor shells are ? I picked up a vintage kit circa 1970 (either Swinger or Action I think ) with the flat based hardware that have 2 different shell types....the 22 bass and 13 tom have darker glossy lacquered interior shells with reinforcements at the seams while the 12 and 16 are normal beech .... snare is a Supra imperial type lug copy? Anyone seen a mixed -shell kit like this before. I have no doubt that it came this way from the factory since they all came with the original sonor heads mounts ,wrap and grommets , plus the bearing edges are cut the same and shell thickness are the same ... but the 2 darker stained shells are a mystery ...anybody???

Looks like the 70s Sonor to me....
here is a quick pic of my recently acquired vintage Sonor kit .... 22 12 13 16 and supra copy....$300 including Sonor flat based snare stand a pair of flat based cymbal stands. The higher I tune them the more I love them ... since the lugs are plastic this may be a recipe for disaster , but so far so good. the unusual thing about this kit is the mixed shells 12, 16 are the typical beech and the 22 and 13 are darker stained wood with identical thickness and cut to the edges but with a thick wood strip of reinforcement along the seam joint ...any body know what kind of wood these 2 drums might be made of ?
They are Beechwood throughout. Can you show the darker ? The FT brackets are only found on swinger beginner kits. Also on Champion and Phonic. Are their different tom mounts ?
Pics, all the way around and inside help a lot.

I will get the pics today ... the reason I have not done it yet is I don't have a Slotted key so I need to use a screwdriver right now ....
here we go....this is the 13?? but the 12 is beech
They`ve been stained and re-wrapped. Not a SONOR cut on the wrap and the stain inside is on the edges.
What to do. Painters blue tape around the drums top and bottom inside and out. Take 200 grit paper and put wrap it around a small dry kitchen sponge. Go around the edges with it until you get all the lumps and divots out. Stay with the round on the edges, they`ll clean up.
Remove any crap inside that joint with a old butter or steak knife from the top, blow out the loose stuff, apply Elmer`s wood glue into the joint with the same knife and clamp it down between two things like dry sponges. "wipe the squeeze out "glue off while wet.
After all done, run a white candle around the edges one way than the other, take your finger and then run it around to smooth the wax. take off the tape put the heads on and see they tune better.

For me thats no beechwood?
When SONOR does the edges, it`s on a completely finished and undrilled shell.

I don't believe you are correct about that my friend ...the floor tom and the 12 are beech with no reinforcements but the 13 and 22 are darker with reinforcements ...I think you jump to quickly to that conclusion ...I will take some more pics of the other drums if you like ?
