WFL and Clubdate in action Last viewed: 2 hours ago

I finally decided to try and get a decent recording using a cell phone camera of two of my kits in action this weekend.

First up is my 50s WFL kit in WMP with a 1952 Leedy&Ludwig Reliance snare (8 lug). Bought the WFL from forum member Allenl55.. and the snare drum from PurdieShuffle. Audio came out pretty well here.

Second video is from an outdoor gig using my 1966 Club Date set that I bought from member Surface (Nevin) a couple years ago. The snare on this gig is a Pearl Chad Smith Series (nothing vintage.. about 15 years I've owned it.) This is with a 9 piece funk/soul/disco group with a horn section so I like the extra crack that I get out of the Pearl Snare.

Thanks for watching and listening! It was a fun weekend of playing music!

Thank you sir! I have another one from the club date gig of "Vehicle" by Ides of March. I had the phone placed near the monitor on my left side for that one so it came out a bit distorted. Not too bad.. so I may upload that one later. If so I'll share it! Thanks for the kind words!

Very nice drumming! I especially like your double stroke rolls in The Letter. We use to play that tune and I never thought about doing that. Both kits sounded good, but the WFL and Leedy were my favs.Clapping Happy2

Thanks guys for your comments above!

That Leedy&Ludwig Reliance snare has a great sound to it. I'm glad that I decided to hold onto it as it pairs really well with that WFL kit, being made from mahogany wood. I've tried to use my 60s Acrolite with the WFL kit, and that snare just comes across too bright in contrast to the WFLs.. to my ears at least. The Acro sounds great with my other kits.

Anyhow, by request from FFR428, I went ahead an uploaded the video I took of "Vehicle" from Friday night's gig. The camera phone is placed on my left here, near the speaker monitor... so it is slightly distorted. But, it's not so bad that you can't hear everything. My phone memory ran out right before the end.

This is the first time I've recorded a live gig like this and I have been wanting to try it after seeing others on Youtube do it. It's neat hearing this stuff from a listener's point of view. I plan to do more in the future so that I can critique myself when I come across some unwanted funkiness! As drummers, we tend to be our own worst critics and I am not immune from being that.

I'll go ahead an include the Dixie Chicken cover as well. Thanks for your comments again!

I really like the sound of the Reliance snare. Great playing too! Mind if I ask what heads are on it?

Believe it or else!
