I got the kit at Rockin Robin, they said it was for a muffler. You can tell they were factory drilled and there is an indent around the holes that looks like it was caused by a metal plate.

That sure looks like the holes for something like a Ray McKinley. I've got one here and the markings are very close. That would be my guess. There doesn't appear to be anything off or wrong with those holes. Looks good, JR.

Did Ludwig put large classic lugs on 8x12s at that time? I would otherwise have assumed it to be a 9x13.

Extra holes on the BD look like the holes for a Slingerland internal muffler. My 50's RK's have it.

Yup. Looked like a Ray McKinley-ish thingy to my eyes. That was a nice nice kit.
