I'm with you, John. As I said, I would prefer they be played in some form or fashion. They really do have a nice sound to them. I do think I'd prefer to remove the chrome, though. They have nice wood shells underneath.

I hear ya, Macr0w! And I'm sure it wouldn't be too hard to replace the one missing claw and 3-3/8" t-rod.

You know, the toms could be used as accent pieces like Roto-toms or timbales. You could cut them down to shallow sized toms and make them double headed. Or you could get them put back together and donate them to a small school.

I would definitely put that bass drum back together and use it though.

I'd cut the toms down and remove their wrap.

The 14" could then become a snare, and the 12 and 16 some cool shallow toms for a compact / travel kit. The bass drum I'd play as-is and/or use as a woofer.

Yes, I've noticed this trend also. Rather than the lead singer shaking a tamborine during the instrumental breaks (as they all did in my time), singers now are hitting floor toms and bass drums to add a little more percussion color. I like it.

And though a 10x28 bass drum would make an interesting gong drum, I've always had this perverse idea to turn a shallow marching bass into a giant snare drum (played with mallets!). What a surprising sound effect that would be. One of these days....

OK, ya'll have convinced me! I've started soaking the hardware for the BD and stripping the hoops. The shell itself needs little more than cleaning, so that's what I'll do with it. NOW, who has a spare claw and t-rod they can give up? :D

As for the toms, I guess I'd better wait until I get some of these other projects finished before starting that one! Trying to keep my wife off my back...
