Forgot to add my wife's thought on this....when I told her the story....I guess she was expecting a 4 or 5 piece drum set in the garage...when she saw the shells on the floor...She goes "get rid of these...they are old!"

CryBaby ....and IM like "exactly"!....she doesn't get it!

I'd hate to rain on your parade - though think it best to advise you here.

That 'giving away' of her ex-husband's drums might not have been......legal. You may want to inquire about the circumstances, as if I were the ex-husband, I might be filing a motion for these kinds of things. See it from his perspective and be aware that the circumstances and timing of her divorce (is it final??) is going to bear heavy on your prospective ownership.

That said, in consideration of that fellow drummer surely down on his luck (divorce is HARD - don't wish that on my worst enemy), you might not want to do anything to modify it, as he might be getting it back later. The only thing I would consider doing is CAREFULLY start cleaning it up. (NO STEEL WOOL) I had to state that since we have no idea how versed you are at drum restoration. Read up on this site and seek advice through the process (if you even do anything before verifying your legit legal ownership) and soak up the depths of knowledge here.

Best Blessings, though wise steps,

John

I had a great day! Instead of sleeping in and wasting the day, I got up at 8 and I had all my slacking done by noon!

Good point , John. Definitely crossed my mind... They have been divorced about 6 months. Her exact words is that he took everything he wanted...and whats left goes in the trash. If I didn't want them..I could trash them.

Anyone know what that suitcase looking handle type piece, is for , on top of bass drum>?

Great score! I think you're safe after 6 months.

I like the kick; had to sell my Pioneer though. Except for roots music I guess, I couldn't ever get a decent sound out of it. For me, 8 lugs is minimum. That's why I think the Jazz Festival gets so much more money. Everyone says same shell, same edges, same throw - certainly not remotely the same sound to my ears. I sold my Acro too for the same reason I think. I don't miss either. $00.02

This question made my night!

Welcome to the world of vintage drums!

I'm of the opinion that we never own these drums, we just take care of them until the next guy gets them.

Clean them up, look for some other orphan drums to make a set and enjoy them.

Great find!

Great score. Did you know the guy? If he was cool I'd give him some coin. If not they are yours. After 90 days and no attempt to claim, it's fair game. They went to the trash. That could be anywhere. Lucky you it was your garage :-)

Very good point about research before any restoration attempt. They don't appear to need much. Just curators of the gear is spot on.

Any any question you might have just ask. Looking forward to pics of those cleaned up.

Nothing special here but I like them.
