I left home (and school) at 16 for a "real" gig at at tourist resort. Never really went home again except for visits later. I think it was hard on my mother. Played for a living until 2002. Got married and needed money. I taught and ran a studio. Then had to have a big neck operation. Took so long to recover, I started working a day gig to keep everything going with 3 kids. Only got back to gigging 2 years ago but it's just great at the moment. Since the op, some very tiny thing is not there - but I was able to lift all my boys so that is the gift I got. I had some good gigs; played with great players. I always played for love anyway. Great thread and thanks for the good company here.

once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.
Thank you Curtis, a chance for us all to get to know each other a little better.I dont know if many folks are aware of my web site, its not drum related but does have a little history of me and my family.www.jeffscabinets.com

Seeing as I made mention of it earlier in the thread...
Here's a couple of pics from last nights Orbison show.. The kit is perfect for this show with the larger toms.. I had the guitarist belt out on the kit during sound check and was most impressed. It was a sell out show & best of all.. had quite a few friends along... (Including the grandkids)..
Cheers

Playing for the love of music and drumming in particular. Have made a few bucks here and there, but that never was signficant nor a driver and nobody would have paid me a lot to play in any event. Started young, set it aside to survive 5 years of engineering education then marriage, family and so forth, and got back into it 18 yrs later when I a little time with a group doing their own music and a couple of few cover bands. Got back out again from 2003 to 2013 due to one thing and another, but got back in last year when the drummer in a local band here repatriated to the US. All in all, a great time every time I've been active.
I've gone up and down with collecting, but probably peaked at one juncture with 25 Rogers kits. Holding fairly steady and 5 right now, but tempted to either add a 6th or go back down to 2. You guys know how it is. Excited
Used to tour for a living. Now just play for fun.
My collecting started after selling a 57 set of Ludwigs and regretting it. Now I can't seem to get rid of anything…..
