What is the best recorded drum sound you have ever heard? Last viewed: 0 seconds ago

Loading...

I am after everybody's thoughts about the best recorded drum sound they have ever heard (so far). I am not talking about technique, just the sound of the drums. You can divide it into genres or just let everyone know your favorite.

Looking forward to hearing from everyone.

My nominations are (not counting anything by John Bonham who was always recorded well):

Best rock/pop :

Andy Newmark on John Lennon's Double Fantasy album

Best Jazz:

Tony Williams on all of the Miles Davis Quintet albums (the ride cymbal sound to die for)

cheers.

I have to say drums on Al Green's "Still in Love With You" album.

I'd pay big bucks for someone to arrange for the same setup as Al Jackson had on that LP.

Once you know what songs were recorded at Sound City, it's totally obvious.

I caught some country singer playing a tribute to Merle Haggard on the radio. He was singing Poncho and Lefty and the drums on that song, over the stock radio in an F-350, sounded like a million bucks!

Jeff Porcaro and his mid 70s L.A. era Camcos which can be heard on hundreds of hit songs throughout the 70s. Everywhere from the Thriller album (Michael Jackson) to Steely Dan to Boz Scaggs' Silk Degrees album.

Good one. That Boz LP sounds great to this day though almost 40 years old.

Really dig the great sound of Denny Seraphine's Slingerlands on Chicago's Feeling Stronger Every Day. Super Zildjian cymbal crashes, too. Awesome sound, super song to play to, no matter where I'm at when I hear it, I'll always reach for my "air" drums on each fill...

Yes~! That bell sounds amazing too. Rings loud and clear. There's quite a few isolated tracks on YT of Chicago. Most are Terry on guitar and Peter on bass. But most include Danny's drum tracks too and some horn parts. Kind of cool to hear.

To answer the original Q... man there's too many for me to list. So many great tracks and players. Each unique to the band and tracks themselves. Soooooo maaaaaaany. Cool1

Glenn.

Not a guru just havin fun with some old dusty drums.
