The drums appear to be made of a 'pressed' wood....as was earlier mentioned. Nice weight to them and I'm liking the tone - even with the old heads this drum came with. I imagine it will sound even better with new heads.

I've got the kit up and running and it sounds good except for the bass drum. I'm sure it's because I'm using the very-much-used batter head that came with the drum. The head has a few rips/and small holes in it too. I have an Aquarian Force 1 coming in the mail. Never tried one but it should be lightyears ahead of what's on there for a batter now.
My late 50's Gretsch cymbal arm fit perfectly into the Pearl mount.
