What Pure Sound snares to put on Supra? Last viewed: 0 seconds ago

I got a new Supra and I am wondering what type of Pure Sounds I should put on the snare or should I go with another brand of wires. This is a 5x14.

Thanks

I've tried those eq snares with the split wires on a couple of thinner snares.

Found em pretty good.

very clean tite snap with no buzz, even off the bass guitar.

+1 Hollywood speaks true. No extraneous snare buzz, great response. If you're not in a hurry... I'd look for an 'original Ludwig set of Pat. Pending wires' on ebay. The split-snares are the bomb though!

Too many great drums to list here!

The best snare wires I have ever found for the supra's are the plastic ends/patent pending Ludwig snare wires that they stopped making in the 60s or early 70s. They go for upwards of 65.00 on ebay but are usually all stretched out and worthless. The only way to get a really good set still in excellent condition is to buy a student snare drum kit from the 60s or 70s. I have most all of my snare drums outfitted with them. Adrian Kirchler has a great example of the ultimate in snare wires which is a draw on old Ludwig... It is also the direct opposite of PureSound heavy copper ends type wires..It all goes back to what you'll settle for, and or how spoiled are you, or personal preference.

To be honest with you, I just picked up a 60's acro recently that looked like it sat in it's case for almost 50yrs untouched, mint and it had the original Ludwig snare wires, but to my ear it made it sound like a "student snare", kind of dry. Swapped them out for the Custom Puresounds and it really opened the snare up. Sounds like a Supra now.

Interesting, then you would be willing to trade them to me for two new sets of PureSound Custom 14" 16 strands, and a 14" 20 strands? I'll even pay your shipping.

On my one and only DW maple SDs from 1981 every set of snare wires I tried didn't work well until I put the PS 16strand EQs on. So you just never know until you try them. They really are almost a sure thing that the PS EQs will work, work well, and eliminate snare buzz.

I have Puresound Customs on mine and while it sounds great the rack tom makes it buzz. I may try the EQ style next. I had those plastic ended Ludwig wires on an Acro once and they were dry and funky for sure. I preferred the wetter sound of Puresounds on that drum. All personal taste.

Lol,...That's the nature of an Acro, Dry is what Aluminum does best. I think the thread was asking for opinions on snare wires for an LM 400 which is already EQ'd with the chrome plating. To open the sound of the snare even more , VM2K nailed the type I would use 1st and the EQs to tone it down if PS snare wires were my only option.
