What Pure Sound snares to put on Supra? Last viewed: 34 minutes ago

EQ'd with chrome plating???? How does that work? To my ears both the acro and supra are dry sounding (both aluminum) with the acro being more open sounding due to its having two less lugs. Snare wires can't make a drum more or less open sounding. They can only alter the balance between the amount of snare shell you hear and the amount of snare wires you hear.

I was always under the impression different types of snare wires, as well as types of wrap, paint, Lacquer, plating and their thickness had a direct effect on how open and resonant a drum was or wasn't. Maybe I am wrong.

Slingaluad, thanks for the offer, but i think I'll hold on to these just in case, they look new.. As far as the Puresounds, anybody hear any difference between the Customs and the Custom Pro? I have both, and don't, but thought I noticed a little more buzz from the Pro's. I have the Customs on the acro, and the Custom Pro on an old WFL Superclassic.

Interesting, then you would be willing to trade them to me for two new sets of PureSound Custom 14" 16 strands, and a 14" 20 strands? I'll even pay your shipping.

The way I understand it which could also be wrong is that chrome plating is something like 0.005" or so thick. Less than a sheet of paper in thickness. I can't see that having any audible effect on a metal drum's resonance. Wraps on the other hand I'm sure will. Much thicker and attached with contact cement. Unfinished wood drums will probably sound different than a lacquered one but I doubt anyone could tell the difference between a drum with a lacquer finish 0.005" thicker than another lacquered drum. I'm sure the material that the snare wires are made of has a small effect on sound but I always thought that it was the number of strands that was most noticeable. I think snare wires have no effect on a drum's resonance but rather determine how much of the shell you hear. Low strand wires allow you to hear more of the shell or the basic drum's tone and in the case of an aluminum drum, more of its classic dry tone. High number wires give a wetter sound. It's also my understanding that 8 lug drums are more open sounding than 10 lug drums. For sure all the Acros I've had would ring more than my Supra. I prefer the tighter sound of the Supra. I'm convinced, which could also be wrong, that the only reason the Supra was plated was to make it look nicer and worth the extra cost than the Acro since they are so similar sounding. Again, I'm no expert and could easily be wrong.
