What was that snare on Letterman last night? Last viewed: 4 hours ago

Loading...

Did anyone watch David Letterman last night (May 7)? Letterman was making some jokes about Todd Rudgren's multi-colored jacket, saying it was a "saleman's sampler" (one that showed off all the available fabrics). After a commercial break, he says he has another "salesman's special". He then opens a snare case on his desk and pulls out a beautiful, rainbow patterned, multi-colored Ludwig snare (wish I had a screen shot).

I assume this snare must have been one of Anton's, but I couldn't tell if this was a vintage snare or a modern Ludwig repro. Did Ludwig make a wrap pattern of all the sparkle finishes, or was this indeed a sales rep's display model? What say you Luddy experts?

Wow, how'd you get those screen shots? So we have a vintage keystone badge and mini classic lugs, but what's up with that butt plate? So is this a stock drum?

It looks like Ludwig reproduced the same color scheme as this one-off set, made by WFL for a trade show (The Ludwig Book, R,Cook).

I love that kit...a real "eye-catcher"! But then, I like the VistaLite Patriotic too.

From what I understand back in the day the Ludwig sales rep had a drum they took with them that had every sparkle, glass wrap on it. Now Ludwig is selling sets like that as the Salesman Sampler. Something like that. I think they look pretty cool. Speaking of Todd. We had the same lenses.
