What's Mickey(RIP) playing here? Last viewed: 3 hours ago

Mickey Rooney passed away recently and I have seen several clips of him drumming, from a movie he made. Anyone know if he could really play? He looks to actually be playing from the clip on Youtube.

Also can anyone tell what this kit is?

The top pic is a white marine pearl Leedy set. A 9"x13" tom that looks exactly like that one (including the factory key holder & dual tone controls also seen in this pic with Mickey) was posted on Ebay last night & is date stamped 3911 (Nov. 1939).

Looks like he can really play to me! If he's only lip-synching the drum part, he's doing a damn good job of matching the music beat for beat! Check out Micky on the vibes!!!

That's pretty awesome.Wow. Goes to show how multi-talented actors were back in the day. Sing, dance, play drums, etc., etc.

Makes these wimpy American Idol no-talents look like worthless amateurs that they are :) Thanks John!

I think it would be fun to attend his estate auction in the future.

Makes you wonder what drums, if any he kept over the years.

He probably played on the recording he's playing with in the movie scene. The "stick-synching" is too close to what he's doing to be someone else's recording. And it's pretty damn good, considering it's not a M.Drummer drum-off, it's a movie. See that, Judy shows him a little cleavage and WATCH OUT!
