Don't know where this is from - just picked it off the internet a couple years ago. I had never seen anything like it before. I know nothing about it......left to our observations.John

Those aren't plies - that's a stave shell. A very thick stave shell at that. Very little glue in that drum, really. There are many manufacturers as well as plenty of homebuilders making spectacular stave shell drums - Brady from Australia is one of the better known. I've played a 6.5x14 Jarrah stave and it had a great sound.

That stave is comparable in thickness to a 50 ply Keller shell.

I have a 24-ply 5.5x14 Dixon Bubinga snare. Great drum! Loud and sensitive.
