Which Rogers' Finish are Most Prized Last viewed: 6 hours ago

From Boscoe

Here are my 12 and 16 Wildwoods with flat grey interiors. My question would be...what is rare? Low production numbers? Offered only a short time? Low numbers available today? Prototypes? Custom finishes? Finding your first kit? I always wanted one like this? It's a harder question than it seems at first.BTW on the Ludwig side I would rather have a natural maple Bonham sized late 60's kit.

Cooool kit. I just saw a project wildwood kit on ebay, yesterday. I was thinking of picking them up and take a year to work on them. Then, my wife reminded me of all the stuff we have to do around the house. Yuck.

I have a blue strata kit, and that finish is pretty rare. I have been trying for years to find a 12in tom for that kit. Bobby from Jollity Drum Farm just laughed when I asked if he had this tom. The time frame is 1967-1972 for blue strata, and it was low production. It's a sharp finish under the stage lights.

I thought the red wine ripple pearl and the pink strata pearl finishes were deemed pretty valuable for Rogers.

Does anyone know of a good source for new Blue Onyx wrap that is close to the original?? Here's the scoop...

I have the 20", and two 12"s of a Rogers Blue Onyx kit in nice shape (called the "Top Hat" with the two 12") I have a 15" Rogers Powertone marching snare (script logo and lugs in good shape) and I'm considering re-wrapping and converting it to a floor tom to match the rest.

What do you think??

I know that Precision Drum Company's red onyx is extremely close to the original finish. I would assume ("and I hate this word"!) that their blue onyx would be also. I'd suggest you contact them and ask them to send you a sample of their blue onyx. They don't charge for it and you can put it up against your other drums to check out the match.

[COLOR="Purple"]Precision can send you a sample of the Blue Onyx, as noted. If I were you, however, I'd ask for a sizable swatch (their typical freebie is only about 1"x2"...but a scrap piece of, say 3"x4".... would be much more useful).

I agree, it's usually a good match. It's hard to say, though, w/o seeing 'em side-by-side because of things such as fade, etc....
