Who considers themselves player, or just an enthusiast. Last viewed: 0 seconds ago

From Drumguy1988

I consider myself a player. Even though I haven't played in a band since 2003. I practice twice a week on a kit and the rest on a pad.I was a player long before I got into vintage drums.

I think I miss-understood the definition of player. I was a professional player but stopped live playing 13 years ago. Still play drums for the enjoyment now. But really want to get back playing professional again.

After giving this more thought, I think anyone who sits down behind a kit and trys to improve while getting enjoyment, is a player. I don't think skill level should be a requirement to be considered a player.

That being said, to be a "real" musician, you have to play with other musicians. One of the most satisfying things about playing music is when everything clicks when you're on stage. When we played A Taste of New Orleans at The Sunken Garden Theatre, we were on fire. Playing on a huge stage in a concert setting really gets the juices flowing and despite being nervous, the adrenaline kicks in and everything just jelled. Now that's a great feeling.

Well no "I'm a Real Musician" T-shirt for me :-). That is fine. I don't have any desire to play in a band. Would be very cool but would not be comfortable with it so would suck.

I have a great time just finding whatever vintage item seem to think I want at the moment. Sorting out what needs mending. Get it working and looking presentable and then just enjoy it.

Big thanks for all of you that do play for others!!

Nothing special here but I like them.

First and foremost, player..Not a "pro" although we get paid sometimes. I'm in a band called bedroom talk. So for me it's about creating art. We play all the time around southern california. Sometimes 2 or 3 times a week. I have 9 or 10 kits. And I use every one of them.

That is one great picture! Nice of you to allow the kick-jump. :)

At this point I fit this definition of a gentleman:

Someone who CAN play the drums, but doesn't.

1971 Ludwig Rock Duo set in Blue Oyster Pearl
early Mapex dual bass drum Saturn kit
1964 Leedy Ray  Mosca kit in Blue Sparkle
1959 Slingerland Super Gene Krupa snare in WMP
1968 Slingerland Hollywood Ace Snare Drum
1969 and 1977 Ludwig 400 Supraphonic snares
1965 Acrolite snare
Ludwig Coliseum snare
'68 Rogers Dynasonic snare
Pearl free floating piccolo snare
13" Mapex piccolo snare
6.5" deep Mapex steel snare
Mapex 6.5" Brass snare
I know there's more snares than that.
UFIP cymbals / Avedis Zildjians
Ghost pedals or Tama King Beats

From Wayne Brown

... A professional drummer is one who makes his living with the drums and not really how often they play per mos. ... Wayne

I couldn't agree more. Any other definition is questionable.
