Mike do you (or anyone else) remember who the vendor was in the middle of the main room upstairs? He's the 4th pic in your first set with the 2 COB dynas on the end. He had a TON of new old stock Ludwig snare wires. All kinds. I looked at a few and they were $75-80 and up each. But thought it was worth a mention.
Who's going to the CT Drum Show? Last viewed: 0 seconds ago
Not a guru just havin fun with some old dusty drums.

Mike, Great shots! Thanks for posting them up. Made me feel like I went to the show! :p
That Champagne kit caught my eye!
John
Have never been to a vintage drum show, I wonder if there are good deals to be had buying in person as opposed to online. Can some of the VDF veterans shed some light? Thanks.
I can see how temptations would be difficult to resist. Leave the wallet at home I guess :)
Glenn: I don't know who that vendor was in the center of the room with all the Ludwig parts, but I've talked with him at past shows and bought some stuff from him. His prices range from real bargains to sky high. I bought a couple like-new 24" heads from him at only $15 each, but his NOS packaged snares were quite expensive. And those COB Dyna's were no bargain, and they were dented and beat. But a lot of the vendors don't want to cart all those drums back home, so they're us usually willing to negotiate. Big THANK YOU again. Let me know if you ever need anything.
John: Yah, that Rogers Champagne 12/14/20 was my personal favorite. Glad you liked the pics, but again, I only took a few photos of the vintage stuff I personally found appealing. There were many custom drum makers there, but I just didn't have the time to look at the new stuff.
Larry: There are some real bargains to be found at these shows, but I also see some prices that seem to be just wishful thinking. "Leave the wallet at home"? NO! I go with a lot of cash in my pocket just in case I stumble on a holy grail at a realistic price, but most of the time I walk away with bits of hardware, wrap, or parts needed to finish projects. Only drum I bought this year was a strange, unidentifiable novelty: a small gong drum with an internal, crank-controlled tuning mechanism like a timpani. I'll post a pic in a couple days.
Mike
Thanks for the info Mike. Yep I was eyeing those dynas too. I agree the prices were no bargain. I wasn't in a position to make a serious offer......didn't bring enough cash. Guy had some nice things though. Hey glad to help out. We'll meet again next year and I plan to spend the day and get lots of pics of all the vendors. I had a family deal I could not miss so had to split early. Next year we'll have to make a plan to all meet somewhere there. I think Tommy went and Chris was there. I really forget what they look like too which didn't help. Names I'm ok with but trying to remember faces and what people look like I'm horrible. Maybe we can coax John to visit CT next year? I also want to try the PA and Del shows too!
Larry I think overall there were some good deals on things. It depends what your looking for. For me it's really worth the trip. Nice to see things in person and pick and choose a bit. Fun to chat with people and vendors. Castle Drum co had some really beautiful stave snares drums. Some had a conical shape which was interesting to see. Finishes were flawless. Good stuff. I thought it was a good mix of new and old drums/cymbals.

Glenn, We have three shows a year in our 'area,' 2-shows per year at Delaware and the show that Jack Lawton sponsors once a year here in PA. If you, or any of the guys attend any of those shows, let me know. I'll be there with bells on.
I have a COB Dyna that came with my 9/72 kit. It's in excellent condition and it's all there. I know you're on a budget, make me an offer, or tell me what you're working with cash-wise (I'll work with you,) and the Dyna is yours. Why buy from a stranger? With me, you'll know what you'll be getting and I'll give you the 'cousin price' on the drum. PM me.
John
John sounds good I'd love to hit one of those shows. I think the last PA or Del show was the same day my son had the Brooklyn guitar show. Can't remember.
And Yes~!~! I'm on my way out the door now but will PM you when I get home later. Talk soon my cousin!!! ;)

Hey Glenn/Mike!
Yes, I was indeed there. I had a gig the night before, so I got there a little later than I had originally planned.. but .. I had to deliver a snare drum to Joe Montineri, so I stopped to see him first, then... downstairs to talk with Matt. I then took a trip around the entire show and ended up chatting with a couple guys I haven't seen in like forever!.. then .. back to Joe Montineri's booth, then... back to see Matt, at which point we went outside to load the drums, then... back around the entire show one more time, and then I had to leave. Not sure what time it was, but Shawn Pelton's clinic was just getting going as I was leaving. Sorry I missed you both! I know what Mike looks like, but never saw him! There was a nice crowd in there though, so it would have been tough anyway!
Tommyp
Tommy sorry I missed you. Yes indeed there was a good crowd there this year. We'll all have to make a plan next year to meet/introduce etc..... This was only my 2nd show. Was every bit as good as the first. Very fun.

Tommy,
Sorry I missed you. Joe Montineri showed me the drum you returned to him, and I'm calling him to have a 5x14 shell made. I picked up a strange novelty drum from the center vendor which Joe's booth was facing. This vendor had a lot of strange odds and ends, and this drum just caught my eye (pics below). I don't think it's vintage; maybe some homemade concoction? It's 18" in diameter, calfskin head, with a single-crank internal tuning mechanism like a timpani. The crank pulls all the tension rods down uniformly. No idea what I'm going to use it for, but I can't resist something out of the ordinary for a bargain price.
So any ideas? Is that a Sonor logo?
