The shell likely has a layer of copper, nickel then chrome. I think what you are seeing is the copper plating. Mine looks similar.

If you don't mind me asking, which Michigan GC did you buy it from? I try to keep an eye out for deals, since I live near one and work near another. Not long ago, I noticed a 50s Leedy duco snare listed at $100. It was gone when I got their a few hours later, shipped to Pittsburg.

This one came up in the Southfield Michigan store and I had em ship it out to me in Scottsdale Arizona. Free shipping is also a bonus when going the GC route. Downside was the 20 bucks in taxes. She is all stripped down and ready for her bath. After pics coming soon.

That's the same store that had the Leedy duco snare. How'd you get free shipping? I bot a snare from them a while back and they charged me $15 shipped from Illinois to my door.

It sounded like they just put in a new shipping policy recently. When the guy rang me up over the phone he was not sure if it would charge shipping or not and it didn't. He sounded a little surprised but I almost bought the drum a couple days before and the sales assistant I talked to then said it would be free and that they had a new system in place.

She polished up really good. Still need to get some new wires on this bad boy but she is ready for action !

Outstanding drum. What did you use to polish the shell? My lugs cleaned up nicely with a buffing wheel and polishing compound, but I have not tackled the shell yet.

Dismantled everything and used Mothers Chrome Polish on the drum. Can pick that up at any auto parts store.Then used this stuff called Maas on the badge.
