hi everyone im new here. Today at work i found a snare drum in a house we were cleaning out. from my research it appears to be a 1920s lugwig 8 lug black beauty (4x14) scroll pattern deluxe model. my question is Why is there a light bulb in it. and would i hurt its value, if it has any, if i polished up the copper hardware. lugs head rings etc.....

do you mean light bulb or light socket and light bulb in the socket? I think a lot of drums had lights in them to try to keep the heat in them for the calf hide heads. it would keep them tight without the cold and damp getting them to loosen up. if it was put into the drum after purchase it may devalue it slightly. but not much as it was used in the music biz during it,s life as a pro drum. cleaning and care should be done by a knowledgeable person. drum tech. if there is calf heads on it that is a bonus to keeping it original.
Please do not touch until you post pics on here!
