1964 Ludwig BOP Ringo Kit - Input Please Last viewed: 4 minutes ago

Hey! Get in line for that jazzfest! :)

That set looks great so far! A jazzfest or pioneer would be nice for sure but unless one shows up at a goodwill or a yardsale I would say that they will cost a small fortune. I saw a nice OBP jazzfest at a drum show in the late 90's that was $800.00 once and back then I could'nt imagine paying that much for a snare drum. Guess I should have reconsidered....

Here is my contribution with period correct Ringo jazzfest that was rewrapped. Can't wait to see the pics of everything. I also have a period correct matching original canister throne. I lucked on that one years ago!

Wow, that's a great looking kit Kurt! I actually have a Pioneer that's in less than stellar shape that I'm considering rewrapping to go with this kit. It's signed on the inside by WFL II or III (can't remember which one). I'll snap a pic and show you guys. Hardware is nickel plated though.

Sooo... There must be more of you with some sweet looking Ringo kits. Let's see them! Post 'em if you got 'em. It will give us all something to drool over while I get my stuff in order Yes Sir

Here's mine. Also 64, red felt mufflers. I found an early 60's jazz fest on ebay

that had been badly wrapped in satin flame and had it re-done in 60's style

oyster pearl from precision – you can see it in the third pic.

supraphonic - that kit is stunning! ...and a downbeat to boot! Your Jazz Fest looks great too, good job on the rewrap. Thanks for posting the kit for us. Is there a story behind it? I find that more often than not, our vintage drum finds have a cool story behind them. Do tell.

That rewrap looks good! Mine is probobly the same stuff. When I got my canister I got it from an older guy that had a full set with matching pioneer. He hated the trhone so I was able to buy it. I wish he would have sold me the the snare though....

Here is my snare with original tom on top and here is my canister...

Thanks thin shell, I figured the L arm wasn't right. I'd like to get the kit back to being as original as possible, but my main objective is to get it clean and playable. I'll get an L arm and floor tom legs in due course as they're easy parts to swap out. I'm hoping to be able to get going on them this afternoon. I'm going to see if I can find some novus as was suggested.

I happen to think the L arm on the consolette is original and correct. I have the same L arm on my '63 WMP Super Classic kit. Great kit and great clean up job, by the way. Even though I have already cleaned my kit up once...I'm gonna buy some Novus and do it all over again! That before and after pic is amazing!

Thanks again for sharing Kurt. That canister was a really cool score. Too bad you didn't get that snare ;) That rewrap looks really good though.

Here's a pic of the Pioneer snare that I mentioned in a previous post. I'm considering wrapping it up to match the kit. The drum is pretty beat up and needs some TLC, so I dont think a rewrap would hurt the value. What do you guys think?

Thanks EMD. I appreciate that bit of information. Given what I know about the kit, this guy apparently didn't change anything. I'll take a pic of the floor tom legs as well as they don't seem original to me, but I guess you never know. It would appear that more than the occasional anomaly does come up in Ludwig land. Regarding the Novus, it really brings out the shine and brilliance in the wrap. The initial cleaning was a houehold spray cleanser and some good old fashioned elbow grease.

Hi Mspartacus, not much of a story. I brought it off the second owner about 3 and a half years ago. He brought it in 1969 (original owner brought 65). It's not mint - unfortunately the previous owner had it on permanent display in his music room and one side of the kit has fade while the other has very little. Doesn't matter though as it ain't going no where!
