Just a stunning set of drums . I keep coming back to gaze at them .

Warning ... Avoid member statuscymbal here, vintage_collector on DFO , and americanpatriot10 on eBay. Email me for his name. All are the same shady guy who has burned me and a list of other members on both boards . He is also selling on Facebook too ..

Being used to Euro and British Pound prices, I can’t believe the price they were offered for. It’s one of the most beautiful vintage sets I ever saw.

I can only imagine how sweet they must sound.

The color, the classy Leedy lugs, the natural BD-hoops, the calf heads,... cmoooon !

Congratulations my friend.

What would have been the original color like?

Is it supposed to be a standard but slightly yellowed blue sparkle or did it always have this stunning Turquoise shade?

I had the same set years ago in BDP but with a broadway new era snare. I loved the fact that it had a 12" tom instead of a 13. I sold them for big buck in the heyday.

Thanks, Stef! To be honest, I have not even had a chance to tune them up and really play them yet. I will let you all know, but I'm sure we can all guess that they are going to sound as good as they look!

I'm with you on the color, the Leedy lugs, natural BD hoops and calf heads...great combo! Leedy lugs are definitely my favorite.

I believe the original color is sparkling blue which has just yellowed a bit. I also think most other blue sparkles fade more and get those dark spots in the wrap, but these babies were preserved very well. They actually are actually glass (not regular sparkle) and seem to change color under different lighting.

As I mentioned to you on FB, I've been crying over the sale of my '49 Leedy kit but I think I found something to be happy about again!

Yeah...my '58 Ludwig has a 12" rack and 22" BD also...I dig it. Better match than a 13" rack tom on a 20" bass drum, I say. I'm sure your kit was a stunner in BDP finish. That's one of my favorite finishes.

I had a 1954 set of Leedy & Ludwig drums with drum sizes of 14x24, 16x18, 8x12, and the same model snare as this one in matching wrap. The 18" floor tom had four legs. The wrap looked to be just like the drums in this thread---a rich turquoise blue glass glitter. I don't think that the wrap is faded at all. There have been many versions of Blue Glass Glitter and Blue Sparkle from the same wrap maker over the years. At first, I thought that this was my former L&L set. But, the sizes are different. I love it. Enjoy!

No matter how far you push the envelope, it is still stationery.
