Tonight Friday i had the night off.So i went down to the "Vet's Hall" in town to watch this band play..They played 30's-40's music. When i walk in i almost fell over the drummer was playing a vintage set of Ludwig "Tophat& Cane" set.I mean the whole set was vintage stands cymbals ete.So i waited around and talked to the drummer after the show.He told me he was 92 years old been playing from the age of 2.Worked all over the U.S..So i ask more about his set he said he got them in the late 40's used and thats the only set he has.The set was a 28" bass, toms were 12" and 14" on bass,The floor was a 16" the snare was a matching 6.5x14..His cymbals were all Zild's hats were 13",crash's were 10'',12''14'',his ride was a 15"...Jim was a very cool guy we talked for about an hour about drums/music/and his life/..To me the coolest thing is that i made a new friend he even called me a young man-iam 51- he told me that is was nice that a guy my age would even talk to him about druming and drums.....Mikey

Yea man! Thanks for sharing that! I can only pray that I am able to play when I get to that age... IF I get to that age!

That is a cool story, Mikey! Thanks! I can imagine how stunned I would have been stumbling into that scene. Maybe someone could get pics of him and his band playing. larry

Yep very cool story. Still playing at 92 is wonderful to hear. People like that are walking history books and amazing to talk with. And he still has his original kit too!! Wow!

I was googling "top hat and cane" and saw a site that said "there were only 15 original top hat and cane sets left in the world."

Anyone know if this is true?

Also does any maker make a top hat and cane wrap for sale?
