I recently discovered my Dads Ludwig Drum Set. It appears to be Gold Sparkle and from the early 60's. My mother started dating my Dad in 64 and she says he had the drums a couple years or so prior to her dating him. It is a 4 piece set, Bass, floor tom, another tom and a snare. Also has 3 different size cymblas. I have stands and pedals which I beleive make this a complete set. I will post some pics when I get home. From the research I have done they appear to 61-62 vintage. They Keystone Badges with no serial numbers. They have been in storage since my Dad passed away in 1970. Looking for some info.

Thats one heck of a drum set to have.

Pre-serial would be 60-63. They often have the date the were produced stamped on the inside of the drums.

3 ply shells with reinforcement rings.

If the stands are original and if it all was were in storage and safe from weather you may have "a corvette in a barn"

Once you post pictures the rest of the guys here will be able to give you more information than you'll know what to do with :o

Hey you know,

The pre-serial # keystone badges are from 1960-1963.

You may have some nice drums on your hands.

Ok, I'm having difficulties loading pictures. I'm working on it.

I took the drum set to the local music store to see if I could acquire a little more info. I'm not sure how they determined the year but they say they are 61.

The kit consist of a

20x15 Kick/Bass

14x14 Floor Tom

12x8 Tom

14x4.5 Snare

The 4 Cymbals are

Zildjian 14" Hihats (2) Top/Bottom??

Zildjian 20" Ride (1) Center hole is oblong. Worn I'm guessing.

Alejian 20" Crash/Rattler

Back to work on pics.

Pictures, maybe

Looks like a Downbeat if I'm not mistaken.

Is that bass drum a different color? or is just me? The toms all look to be champagne sparkle which is really cool!

Thats one heck of a kit there! A lot of guys would love to play one of those. Your father had great taste.
