Purdie,
The history of that kit is just pure gold! How great that you get to know that about your new kit. This is exciting!

Squint - This is an example of why I am so terminally hooked on vintage drums. When you track down a bucket-list instrument and the Universe is conspiring to make it happen by making it as easy as possible to acquire the object of your lust... well, it just doesn't get much better than that.
So far, this has been like a dance... the movement just feels so good. It's just a huge kick for me to find, buy, fix if I have to, some of the old drum kits I drooled over when I was unable to afford them. It's a dream come true. I get to play some of the best musical instruments ever manufactured in the good-ole USA. These Blaemires are a perfect example. The pure mojo of this kit makes it worth ten times what I'm paying for it. It's hard to find an opportunity to buy this kind of drum history laden instrument any more.
I'm luckier than an Irish Leprechaun and happier than a pig playing in mierda! LOL

Glenn - they look exactly like the kit I learned on 1963! My buddy, the guy that taught me, had a 1961 Ludwig Black cortex kit (1-up 13", 1-down 16", and 22" BD, the snare was a black cortex Jazz fest that sounded as incredible as the rest of the kit,) I loved those drums. These black Blaemires with Ludwig hardware will bring back memories for sure.

Just got back from Vinnys to make the exchange.
They are definitely wrapped in black acetate based drum wrap...not vinyl.
The look to be in pretty good shape.
I am stripping my 10 later to re-wrap with Citrus Mod.
Nice grab John
Hey Johnny
Gerry was here a minute ago. Boy, he has a sweet Jeep!
Your snare its on a box . Ill put it inside the bass drum along with the 12"
The 13" will travel separately inside the 16"
Ill figure the shipping costs later today
Ill buy some boxes too!
Keep you posted

Acetate? Better/worse than regular wrap? I honestly don't know.
> They look to be in pretty good shape.
Thanx, Jinx! Couldn't have asked for a more expert person to inspect them for me.

Whoa! Back up the wagon, cowboy! I thought you counseled me not to strip them! Is the acetate wrap easier to remove? If it's the same hassle as removing regular wrap, I'll leave them be, but if there is any decent shot at restoring the green fiberglass without it taking a year to accomplish, I'd at least like the option to do it.
> Nice grab John
It's official then! Thanks Jinxy for the 'creative solution' so I could get a snare and for taking the time to ride over to Vinnies place, I know how busy you are. Again... thank you Vinny for -everything- and also thank you Greg for the great historical info and for your genuinely helpful personal input. Never have to go far to get some help around this joint! You guys are the best. I love sharing stuff like this with you. You make it more fun for me.

Hey John,
I'm sure Jerry will chime in after he strips the drum. Remember, we are experienced with unwrapping these, and Jerry is all setup for restoring such a drum. I'm sure if these are optimum for restoring, Jerry will speak up. A little 10" drum is pretty easy, but when you get into the floor tom and bass drum, it's a major task. Just play them and enjoy them, then after a bit, you can make a decision. I can't wait till you get to play them!
