LOL - Can't wait Vinny! Greg was telling me that he was over at Jerry's today and he got to noodle around on the snare I'm getting. This is killing me! Everybody is getting to play them but me!!! LOL

It's funny, but I learned to play on a Black cortex Ludwig kit. Like I''m coming Home. I'll feel right comfortable behind this kit.

PM or call me Vinny. Lets get this one done and in the books.

You da man!

John

I don't know anything about these drums and I don't know you Purdie but I after reading this thread I am really happy for you.

And it's good to know there are some cool brothers around here who will look out for each other.

This sounds like a very cool kit indeed.

If there is Black Cortex on those shells, and I am sure Vinny knows his stuff, that will be a first. Allen did not have any Cortex in the wraps that I bought up and sold to many here, but that does not mean he did not sell it.

I can tell you this though, those butt seems on those drums are something I have seen a few kits and most likely came either from Pro Drum and wrapped/built up by Howie Oliver or another drum tech there or possibly by Valley Drum. Those butt seems are the best if done correctly. I picked up a set of shells from Stan at Pro Drum a few years ago that were meant for Andy Florio but were never completed. The were wrapped in red and had those very same butt seems. A lot of that kit became the white kit that I built for Mendozart.

As far as heads that we use on our drums....

These drum dont play like a Vistalite (acrylic) in the least, they have a much more powerful and warm sounding. Full bodied.

We mostly use the Evans clear EC-2 on the batter and EC Resonates on the bottoms.

Those bass drums love the Emad batter and either the coated Attack no overtone or the Evans EQ1 or 3 coated.

Here is a link on our site that has video and audio of these heads and some alternatives.

Vinyl like black panther (but maybe smooth) or like regular drum wrap? It would have been acetate based if it is the regular wrap.

Butt seams would make me think it is thick and not like black panther which is very thin.

From Purdie Shuffle

Jerry - Greg - What would be the best heads to use on these tubs? I know that I prefer black, or silver dot clear heads for Vistalites because they really bring out the best in the drums. Would they be a good choice of heads for these FG shells as well? What heads do you guys use/prefer on your Blaemires? If I'm going to spring for a new round of heads, may as well buy the ones best suited for the drums.JohnPS - I just got this from Mendozart, it's the history of the kit I'm getting. I'm sure that after you read it, you'll recognize as I now do, what a very special set of drums this is. Between the drums coming directly from Allen Blaemires hands and the pure mojo that David, the original owner put into them, this kit has everything I could possibly want in a drum set. Enjoy...

Hey John,

Personally I think these drums sound great with several different heads. Like Jerry said, they sound great with the EC2/EC Reso combo. The bass drums love the EMAD batters. I tried an SK on the batter and it was a no go. Don't remember if I tried a PS3 though. I'm personally running Vintage Emperors on the toms and love the sound. The snares sound great with the Evans Rev Dot, and my favorite head right now is the Ambassador X. You really can't make these drums sound bad.

PS. As far as the original owner getting back to me, I wasn't ever trying to buy them, but just wanted to know the history of this kit. There always seems to be an interesting history to these kits.

Vinny - I wrote to Jerry to give him a heads up that I spoke with you. I will PM you Jerry's number so you can contact him and set up the meeting.

The wheels are turning...

I'm literally psyched half way out of my mind! The waiting is a stone cold Bee-atch! lol No BS, I've been boucing off the walls like a 5 year old waiting for X-mas morning! Been awhile since I felt that... feels gooooood! Excited x-mas3

Greg - Do me a huge favor bro... could you please email David, the original owner a link to this thread? I think it'll make him feel good about the transaction and about where, and who, his drums will end up with. I'd also like to thank the cat personally.

Thanx Greg, I always appreciate your invaluable input and help.

Glenn - go back to the first post in this thread. Vinny posted a link to the CL ad. There is a photo there. I'll take and post some individual shots of the drums to this thread when I get them.

I am as excited to check out my new Jenkins/Martin snare as I am about the Al Blaemire kit. Best of both worlds, modern version of a great old instrument, and the original beast itself.

Excuse my French but... '$hit just don't get much better for this Po' boy!'
