Champagne Sparkle or Silver Sparkle???? Last viewed: 6 hours ago

Hi everybody! It's been a while that I've been on here but it's good to be back :)

I think I'm finally losing my marbles; I've had my Rogers kit for the longest time and I always figured it was a really faded champagne sparkle wrap; the previous owner toured and used this kit for years, so I just assumed it was faded, but after seeing chrislehberger's post in the image gallery thread of his silver sparkle kit (http://www.vintagedrumforum.com/showthread.php?t=56868) I've realized mine is silver sparkle, not champagne.

This normally wouldn't be an issue, but I'm working on a couple orphan Rogers drums that I was planning on rewrapping in champagne sparkle. I wanted to use the 16" from the kit I currently have with the drums I'm planning on rewrapping to have a second complete kit; I'd just interchange my floor tom with either kit I wanted to use. But since my kit is silver sparkle instead of champagne sparkle, I'm unsure as to which wrap I should get to match with my 16.

So I guess the question I'm asking here is, do you guys think I should get silver sparkle or champagne sparkle? I was planning on getting it from JamminSam. I really don't care if it doesn't match perfectly, but which wrap do you think would look the best with my floor tom? Any other suggestions?

I'll attach some pictures below. The first picture is from my basement. The lighting down there always brought the darkness out of the wrap, which made it look more like a really faded champagne sparkle, similar to what I saw on this thread and post:

http://www.vintagedrumforum.com/showpost.php?p=361843&postcount=19

but after taking them outside to load them up to go to my friend's studio, they look much more like silver sparkle.

Also PS: the drums I'm rewrapping are due for a rewrapping anyways, I wouldn't be considering this option if the wraps were in good condition

It looks real nice is that the kit you want to rewrap?

April 2nd 1969 scarfed pink champagne holly wood and 65/66 downbeat snare, and , supra same year very minty kit old pies
66/67 downbeat with canister
Super 400 small round knob
1967 super classic obp

once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.

That is not the kit I want to rewrap, that's my Cleveland-era Holiday kit. I recently purchased a 1973 24" kick, a 1964 12x15 Yorktown marching snare, and a 1975 18" floor tom all in need of some serious loving and repair. Since I have a 16" floor tom already, I was planning on rewrapping the 24/15/18 drums in champagne sparkle so I could use my 16" with those drums. The problem is my drums are a faded silver sparkle and I'm not sure how well JamminSam's champagne sparkle would match with my 16" tom. I was curious to see if others would think whether new silver sparkle or new champagne sparkle would look best alongside my 16 tom.

Hope I clarified :)

I'd have to say that your kit is definitely an "aged" silver sparkle. Silver sparkle sometimes goes "ginger ale" in color. Looks like yours is one of those kits. I think it looks nice actually, like how some people like aged Marine Pearl (which I'm not a fan of btw) I like aged silver sparkle. As far as being able to match it, that may be a tough one. Champagne or Bermuda sand as it was also known as is more pinkish in color. I had heard that it was discontinued and replaced by a more modern looking color that is close, but not quite the same. You might want to contact Jammin Sam or Precision Drums about possible matches before committing to ordering one or the other to do the project. They might have some ideas on what would match best.

BTW, the "modern" Bermuda Sand is more copper like in color. To get a good idea of what it looks like, Grestch has offered it in recent years on the Catalina Club series.

Hi Ludwig-Dude! I quite like the "ginger-ale sparkle" myself too, I think it looks pretty classy, but matching it is going to be pretty tough. I think I am going to call Jammin Sam to see if he can get a match for me. If he can get a dark silver sparkle for me that would be perfect!

I'm a huge fan of ginger-aled silver sparkle and your kit is a spectacular example IMHO. Your kit is spectacular all around...

I think you have/need glass glitter not sparkle though. Precision has a few shades, one of which might work well enough [pic]. Actually I think they have more shades than shown in the pic. I'm certain I saw a new DW kit in a local store that looked just like yours colour-wise. It caught my attention because it was...spectacular.

Again, nice kit!

Thank you for the kind words Mitch!! That ginger-glitter matches mine just about perfectly actually, I'll have to call to get a sample and compare. I was hoping JamminSam would carry it since they appear to be cheaper than Precision is, and my 17-year old self doesn't have the deepest of pockets shall we say. Cool Dude

I hope I can get that ginger glitter though, it really is a beautiful finish and my kit would look stunning. Thanks for the compliments, though! I'll have to keep you guys posted once I get everything finished. I forgot how helpful and insightful everyone is on this sight, I appreciate it immensely.

I had a 1961 Rogers kit is silver sparkle (glass glitter). I had a 10" tom wrapped in what I believe was called vintage Silver Glass Glitter and it was a perfect match to the kit. And my kit looked the same as yours as far as color goes.

17 with a kit like that! Good on you sir, and if I may say, hold on to em for dear life, never ever sell unless you absolutely have to...[/old man advice.]

You may still be able to go with JamminSam, just call and tell em your story and see what they got, maybe send em one of these daylight pics you posted. Sometimes these places don't list/show everything they have...as Dolphan says, he was able to source some ~Vintage~ Silver Glass Glitter...

The folks at Precision are super helpful if JS doesn't work out. Be advised glass glitter is notoriously difficult to work with tho - thick and brittle and prone to finger-slicing. Since you don't really care about a perfect match you might be able to find a sparkle wrap that does the job. I'd love to suggest Vintage Nickel Sparkle [pic] but it seems Precision hasn't done a run of that for awhile - again just ask.

Good luck with the project and looking forward to after-pics...

Mitch
