Champagne Sparkle or Silver Sparkle???? Last viewed: 1 hour ago

Loading...

Looks like glass glitter to me. Glass glitters are made up of crushed glass under a layer of plastic. They will be uneven and random.

Sparkles are made up of silver metallic flakes with an even consistent size and shape (usually a hex), and laminated under plastic layer. The plastic layer is then colored, or left clear for silver sparkle.

Champagne (Bermuda Sand) is made of ground silver and copper and has a sand-like texture.

The champagne sparkle that Jammin Sam sells is actually a sparkle wrap (large flakes), that uses silver and copper colored flakes under a clear laminate.

This top photo shows real champagne sparkle, and the bottom one shows the Jammin Sam champagne next to real champagne.

macr0w, that original champagne aged nicely. I had a Slingerland bass that had aged to that shade also, and it looked great.

Unfortunately the toms I had didn't age to that shade, and still looked bright and pinkish. Not that it's a bad thing - it's just everything didn't match.

I had taken this picture for someone who wanted to to see the difference between vintage champagne wrap and modern real champagne wrap (not the Jammin Sam stuff). The left is brand new champagne, and the right is from a 1960's Slingerland floor tom with very little fading.

Where is this new champagne wrap from? It looks closer than any other modern champagne I've seen.

Thank all you guys with the clarifications! I figured out mine is just an aged silver sparklel and Precision's silver glass glitter matches mine almost perfectly.

I want to say Champagne Sparkle can only be fully appreciated in 'real life'. That may be true for any sparkle and glitter....but, it's especially goes for Champagne IMHO of course. I have many different sparkle drums. My Gretsch CS (and they are not the Vintage Sparkle) are by far my favourite. They're classy.....and just crazy sexy under lights. I could have chosen any finish when I ordered them new a few years ago. I'm very happy with settling on CS.

I've loved champagne sparkle for a years and I've always wanted a kit in it (see signature), but the longer I look the more I realize matching a modern champagne wrap to an original is near impossible. I'm thinking of searching for gold sparkle now since it seems much easier to match re-wraps to originals, but still keeping my eye out for the champagne drums of my dreams.

Good choice - Gold Sparkle is beautiful. This is my late 50's kit here. And I was able to easily match the inlay wrap which was missing on one of the bass drum hoops. You have to make sure you get the Gold Sparkle wrap with the 'hexagon' pieces rather than the 'random' pieces when replacing your vintage (old) wrap.......the modern Hexagon pieces are the same as the old Gold Sparkle pieces.

If you look at the wrap using a magnifying glass you can easily see the difference between 'hexagon' and 'random' pieces of sparkle. Ask the question when buying it from a supplier.....Hexagon or Random?

I was tempted to upload a photo of my CS Gretsch kit here but the photos do not do justice - If I had a better camera maybe.
