Concert Tom Revival? Last viewed: 56 seconds ago

I have a couple concert tom kits. LOVE EM. Not sure why they get a bad rap. With the correct heads, they sound great!

A little more dry then double headed kits, but when you mic it, it sounds the same and keep the snare from buzzing so much.

And the paper towels!

And don't forget to tie back your bell bottom trousers so that you don't get the beater caught in your legs!!!

once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.

I've always loved Phil Collins's concert tom setup. Listen to his drum duets with Chester Thompson on the last few Genesis live albums -- really great-sounding drums. And the drum sound on the Abacab album is just killer.

Kits:
1950s Gretsch Name Band in Midnight Blue Pearl (13/16/22/14sn)
1965/66 Ludwig Club Dates rewrapped in Black Diamond Pearl (12/15/20)

Got a Slingerland Country Road kit in my parent's basement.

Just for kicks, I like to scour craigslist for a cheap set of 6, 8, 10, & 12 concert toms to go with it. Haven't scored yet. No hurry, of course.

May just convert them to double headed at some point.

Gotta love them concert toms for projection. I've got a late 70s Slingerland kit with 10", 12", 14" and 15" CTs. Right now I'm waiting for a pair of 8" and 9" CTs to complete the kit. As far as the duct tape and paper towel shots, they do tend to ring. My solution is to stick 1" x 1" foam weather stripping in a ring on the underside of my Evans Hydraulic heads. They sound awesome.
