Does the Barryabko pic finally answer the question of Ringos snare? Last viewed: 30 minutes ago

I can't help to note, that does not look like a square knot to me.

Wait just a minute....

We CAN narrow it down quite a bit. Look at this other pic from the same guy. There is virtually NO gap on the batter side. Which is perfectly in line with the shorter visible portion of the tension rod on top...

So now IF the lugs are centered we can see that the distance from the top of the lug to the top rim edge is 1-9/16". Since that is roughly even with the head, and therefore the bearing edge we can also say the reso edge is about 1-9/16" from the bottom of the lug. Thus we have:

1-9/16 + 2-3/4 + 1-9/16 = 5-5/8"

Allowing for maybe 1/8" of gap on the batter head I would say you could subtract maybe 1/4" which would give you a MINIMUM depth of 5-3/8".

Come on you Luddites! You have to make this thread readable for lay folk -

You mean you are hypothesising on the depth of the snare? As in - vintage wood shell Ludwig are normally ? - 5" ? and this was a deeper drum - please elaborate so we can all appreciate the thread even more ;-)

Left over Barrett Deems perhaps? Wouldn't that be a hoot?! All those people that paid thousands of dollars for the OBP 14x5 Jazzfest ... when all along it was a leftover 14x5.5 Barrett Deems!

Life can be a lot of fun if you really want it to be.

Doesn't some member around here know the cat that set up these drums for the exhibit?

Call him and ask the man to measure the damn thing and be done with all this pish poshing over an eight of an inch.

It's like waiting for the optimum barometric pressure before measuring my Johnson for the record books......

How the heck is that batter head stretched so far below the bearing edge? Is that possibly calfskin?

Yes. Mostly, he played calf during those years ... and on into the later ones.

Too funny! That made me laugh out loud.

I was thinking along the same lines. This thread is starting to sound like an episode of Finding Bigfoot. A bunch of guys analyzing grainy photos and measuring evidence to make a debatable identification.

The actual drum obviously exists, and Ringo is still with us. This shouldn't be too hard to settle.

Getting to the drum kit to answer the Q`s that arise under pressure (kevins), is not gonna happen when Rick keeps the kit in his home unavailable. Buy the way it looks, it`s been left to sit with little to no attention.

Ringo is a humble and extremely kind man with a great sense of humor, if I were at the exhibit and he was there hanging with the crowd like the video shows, I would get him to want to answer these Q`s but not in a rude or challenging way. He may just want to keep things mysterious. I`d get him to the point where he just says, IDK, let`s go see or something. I mean, the kit`s right there.

One thing I`d like to point out again is that Ringo brought the snare with him from England.

What is he now? 70 ? He don`t have a lot of time to keep secrets/mysteries, but does have enough to enjoy let`n them out !i

It`s a drum,.....Hit It !!
