Does the Barryabko pic finally answer the question of Ringos snare? Last viewed: 3 minutes ago

Too funny! That made me laugh out loud.I was thinking along the same lines. This thread is starting to sound like an episode of Finding Bigfoot. A bunch of guys analyzing grainy photos and measuring evidence to make a debatable identification. The actual drum obviously exists, and Ringo is still with us. This shouldn't be too hard to settle.

There is actually a thread about this on the other forum that barryabko linked to. The guy who set up the drums has taken the measurements and knows them but does not yet have permission to disclose the details so you're right the definitive answer is there.

That being said the same topic (depth of the drum) was brought up in that thread and he did ask what other people thought it might be based on seeing the exhibit and viewing the images.

I actually did my analysis before I even read that whole thread really just out of curiosity and for the fun of it. I did some research on it awhile ago at a time when I got it in my head to build the "perfect" Ringo Ed Sullivan kit and learned about the controversy around the true depth of the JF shell. While I quickly got over my compulsion to build the exact kit, I was left with a curiosity about the shell depth and a desire to one day find out the exact specs...

Besides I like screwing around in Photoshop to keep my chops up. I often invent challenges for myself since I don't get to use it in my job very much anymore but I like to stay up to date on it.

Hi All,

Gary Astridge, who cleaned and set up Ringo's drums for the exhibit, said on Drumforum.org:

"The JF lugs are not off set. The top calfskin head is so stretched that in some areas the top of the rim are almost level with the head."

The snare I saw with the OBP kit was 5.5".

If it was so easy to settle. It WOULD have been settled long ago (but it ISN'T)... but that isn't REALLY the point...

I bet everyone's wrong and Ringo's OBP JF is really 5 16/36". ;)

Maybe closer to 5 4/8".

Sorry, I couldn't resist. I'm gonna shut up and go play my 1968 Blue Sparkle 5 5/8" reproduction JF now.

AAAHHHH! Now I see. The exact details of Ringo's snare are intentionally being kept a secret, so that the curiosity of drum collectors will slowly turn to obsession, and eventually full blown mental illness.

Next thing you know, we will be debating what size his hi hats were.

Ringo can't be in this alone.I'll bet the government is involved, as well as the Masons.

Please realize I am joking. No offense to anyone.

LOL.... The conspiracy has been very effective as evidenced by the prices of BOP JF's on ebay. and the premium the 5.5" versions fetch over even that.

Now don't get me started on Johnny Ramones Mosrite Ventures II guitar.
