Thanks for the reply's!Oddball, I was referring to a single bass drum kit, not a double bass kit.The idea of using it for a crutch did enter my mind, and the kick is my weak spot. I think its awesome to hear a drummer play really fast beats on the kick and then discover he is not playing a double pedal. So for now, I think I will wait for a while, save my money. I need a nice throne first anyway. If you recall, my first kit that I restored was a Ludwig Rocker kit with two kick drums and two speed kings. I have half of that kit set up in our practice room. I am taking my Slingerlands to practice tonight and will swap out kits. So I think I will set up the double bass Rockers again and play with that. The only gripe I have, and this is why I gave up on the double kick, was that I could not get the two bass drums tuned alike. So a double pedal was my solution to that problem, not to mention one less bass drum to haul to a gig. Thanks again!
That`s where I can have it out with a few guys,.... You don`t want both bass drums to sound exactly the same.
I don`t like....Boom..Boom, Boom..Boom, Boom..Boom, Boom..Boom, Boom..Boom,
I like .... Boom..Ba, Boom..Ba, Boom..Ba, Boom..Ba, Boom..Ba, When using two bass drums.
You can also put a felt on one beater and a rubber on the other beater to get different pitch from one bass drum.
This topic can go for years.
