DW has an add in the latest issue of MD for their new Dynasonic style snare...

The True-Sonic snare gives a nod to the past and a look to the future with its chrome-over-brass beaded shell and familiar-looking Snare Bridge™. The cast metal Snare Bridge™ is an adjustable, pre-tensioned snare wire system that allows the strands to evenly lift against the surface of the snare head to provide added sensitivity and concert snare-like performance. The True-Sonic boasts a 1mm rolled brass shell that is outfitted with custom integrated snare beds, MAG™ throw-off system, True-Pitch™ tuning, True-Tone snare wires, 3.0 steel True-Hoops, and DW Heads™ by Remo USA®. The 5x14" drum comes standard with chrome hardware and is the perfect addition to any snare arsenal.

Why not? Surely certain area's of drum design that worked can be lifted and brought into the 21st century for todays players to enjoy. Will it be as good as the vintage version, probably not, or almost, maybe better!! But containing the dyna idea and consigning it to a short time frame is useless.

It's like saying Slingerland made solid snares in the 40's, how dare Craviotto or anyone else make one.

I'm sure whoever was holding the dyna patent has done well out of it.

Thanks, Mark.

Actually $600 is not bad. Looks to be sensitive and have a good dynamic range. The brass sound is subdued on this one, I wonder if it has anything to do with shell thickness? Not a 'Dyna' but it's a good sounding drum. $600 bucks for a high quality brass snare with good sensitivity and tone is not a bad price at all. I'd consider one of these.

DW hasn't had good luck with their snares since Craviotto left. The only real nice sounding one I've ever seen without a JC badge was the 5 x 13 aluminum. Perhaps they finally are making an attempt to market toward us old geezers who can(sometimes) afford a $600 snare. A good price point, that's for sure.

Seriously, an exotic snare for $1200! Sure, it looks good, but has the tuning range of a cardboard box.

I'd like to see them take on the extended snare concept. Perhaps they have someone new in marketing or design out there taking charge of the matter.flowers2

Swivo hardware was one of the best things to come from Rogers. I've been hoping that 'somebody' would begin manufacturing it again. Solid, reliable stuff. The first generation Swivo pedals were some of the best, (smoothest) pedals ever made. I'd be happy to see Swivo hardware make a come back.
