From james

I agree. Post a price. It simplifies things. It is transparent.I will add to that - Potential Buyers: if you feel a price is unreasonable tell the seller in a pm, rather than in a knock out drag out reply for all to see. Do it in a respectful way, perhaps even make a counter offer, and back up your counter off with recent sale prices for similar items. I hate it when I see someone offer up something and then see nasty replies along the lines of "dude are you f#$%ing crazy, that price is soooo high". No counter, no recent sale prices.Anyway, just my two cents.

Outstanding post.

Excellent post Rogersling.

Couldn't agree more with your thoughts, nothing irks me more than someone

selling something and not putting a price on it. This goes for anything, not

From 27thlancer

Ok, so I posted a description of some Slingerlands to make an offer. Last time I posted an item for sale with price (Radio King snare) I was low balled to tears. It's my prerogitive to allow someone to make an offer. It seems like there's lots of guys with deep pockets and short arms and nothing better to do than ask for more pictures. If this post gets me in hot water with Forum monitors, I apologize. 27thLancer

Wow. Just found your reference to me on some stuff you have for sale in another thread.

No, this thread was not directed at you. Interesting response, though. This kind of reactionary directive seems to follow me. I had not read but one of your posts. It was that Pat Foley thing you put out. I made a joke in it. Here's that bit ...

Slingerland has "Stopped production indefinitely"

Slingerland stopped production back in the early eighties (some say the late 70s). All of the other drums produced after that are pod people drums. They may resemble the original and even state they are original in writing ... but do not be taken in, they are pod people drums. They are here bent on our destruction. Avoid any contact with them and report all sightings to the local authorities.

Oh well. So, for whatever reason you attached your other For Sale thread onto my back ... incorrectly. I have no idea who you are nor have I followed any of your threads. So, if someone was dogging you, it wasn't me. Least, I don't think it was ...??? Did I? I went back through my posts clear back to May. I couldn't find a thing.

At any rate, have a great life and enjoy the little smiles it brings. Take care.

I have been for some unknown reason been following this thread. I feel that it's okay for someone to say make an offer on items for sale. Some people are afraid to offer a counter offer is the price seems too high for what they really want to spend. Personally I would rather see an interest and deny a sale of an item then not knowing I have the price too high. When I decide to sell I usually have had the item and want to see it gone. Hell I ask for offers and not even get one from time to time. I must also say that if I really want an item, I go after it. I have pestered many of you with " Would you consider selling me that item ? All I have to have is a knowledge of the lusted for item, you don't even have to have it for sale. If I do that I am usually ready to pay. It's an item I have been wanting and dang it I will get it if it's available.

I understand everyone's point here though. I generally like to see prices myself. But man I an not gonna gripe when I don't if I want it....I will ask !

I agree putting a price on your drums is probably best, and posting pics too, as far as people being annoyed by "lowballers" I would just roll with it, its going to happen, nothing personal, just say no.

I have sold lots of things over the internet, and I always try and do put my best price...right out of the gate. That way it creates an urgency to act, if my item is priced right, and 2,3 or more people see it who want it, they know they have to make a move. It is kind of like real estate, realtors have a saying

" do you want to list it or sell it" I think that applies to all goods being sold, nobody wants to pay top dollar, so sellers who give the edge to the buyer, usually make the sale. Just my 2 cents.

I've learned it's better to list higher priced items (full kits, rare snares) without prices, and I have never had trouble selling within the timeframe I need to sell.

I'm not really here to help people value their own drums, and I think this is really what a lot of this is actually about. Anyone who is interested will ask, what's the problem?

My pricing 0.02:

Ask what you want for your items, and if you find a buyer within the time you need to sell, it was priced correctly. If not, reduce and repeat, and on the flip side, if you have multiple respondents, you are underpriced. This is all basic supply and demand with the complexity that no one really knows what the market demand curve looks like for any given drum item at any time (supply seems to be more understood)... the safest best is to have rare (low supply) items that are highly desirable (high demand), which is why certain drums (Gretsch RB 18" kits) just keep increasing in price.
