Have you been offered a lot of money for the only drums that you dont want to sell? Last viewed: 4 hours ago

5K for a Thermoglass Bonham kit? It's worth a lot more than that. Heck, I'd probably give you 5K for it just to resell, especially if it has a rail mount or virgin bass drum.

However, one thing I've learned is...when someone offers you a lot of money for something, that alone can make you want to keep it more, just knowing how fast you could turn it into cash if you want to. But if you're trying to run a business buying and selling drums, never turn down a great offer. I've watched guys sit on drums for years as investments, especially wood dynas, only to see them plummet in value. Same with vintage Ringo Jazz Fests.

[QUOTE=Mike Curotto;179391]At some point it becomes a business deal...years ago a guy "HAD TO HAVE" one of my 5 original 1920s L&L gold plated Triumphals...so I told him that for me to even consider selling one of my prized Triumphals that we would have to go down the "very stupid money road"...he agreed and there you have it...Yep. I have a signed cd from talking to Paul (McCartney) on Rockline. I'd want six digits to ease the pain of parting with it's "value" to me. Many here are now laughing over that price, but it's MINE. ( Besides, I'd use the dough to buy ad space asking Paul to replace it!) I truly hope circumstances have not left you vulnerable on such a sentimental possession. Good luck! larry

"...but it's MINE...." and...go find another one.

There was a Thermogloss Bonham kit on e-bay a couple of weeks back I don't think it lasted more than a couple of hours. I have no idea what it brought.Did anyone see it? I don't have to tell you how rare those kits are in those sizes. Unless you really need the money I would hold on to it. just my 02.

Truthfully, I don't think that kit actually sold. It was a refinished with the exception of the 18" and was not a "factory matched" kit.

You can't let a few isolated incidences taint your love for Ebay/PP, especially a self-employed guy like yourself...I've been doing Ebay for almost 14 yrs. and aside from their "pro-buyer" attitude and a few other gestapo tendencies I still give it a strong "A"...I have 2127 100% positive feedback and probably another 1000 "off Ebay" transactions...I have found some very rare snare drums through Ebay and I've sold a lot of snare drums/drumsets/hardware plus a ton of misc. stuff...granted there are a given number of putzes, perpetual meanderers, bottom feeders, tire-kickers etc. and my bidder blocked list is at least 25+ of these types of people but all in all it's been and is continuing to be a profitable side line of getting money to support my drum habit. A few of you forum members know that I buy a lot of vintage snare drums and my success story with Ebay is that I haven't paid for a single snare drum out-of-pocket in those 14 years.

Good for you Mike, I guess your reputation and maybe a little bit of luck have kept you trouble free at the shark infested waters of Sleazebay but Im proud to say that Ive been doin ok for at least 4 years since I closed my account there. To name a few of the tyranic bad sides of that corrupted place: No bad feedback allowed for buyers, They nickel and dime you like crazy, Ebay-Paypal double dipping, They charge on the shipping now, 21 days hold on your money, Shill bidding running rampant, Mega seller list for free while small sellers pay, Corrupted DrS system, They hide your listings, People can buy yours stuff replace crucial parts and then return it, return a brick, old newspapers or nothing at all...Besides more exposure I dont see a good side on Sleazebay. Ill never support corporate bullies, Ill always side with the small sellers, Im doin fine with my own website...Im proud of it and I refuse to be treated like a criminal...I SAY PAYPAL AND EBAY SUCK

... They're just drums.

I can't argue with this sentiment, especially since drums are just a vehicle for the sounds we want to produce, but I can't seem to get there.

To me, each drum I own has a story and memories attached to it, and I am emotionally bound to it.

That's why I have never sold any drum, no matter how ugly or crappy it sounds, which explains why some of my drums have just been sitting in the shed for decades.

Mind you, I have thought about selling drums I never play many times, but never get around to it.

Ha! To me that kit looks like it's worth more than $5K. Awesome!
