How Many of You Still Play, Collect Vinyl Records? Last viewed: 0 seconds ago

I never really gave up my collection but was just without a turntable for maybe 20 years. Now the obsession is back and with so many places selling used and new vinyl for $1 an LP on up I am enjoying discovering to bands I can't believe I missed the first time around. Some are

Kitty Wells

Randy Newman

Gram Parsons

etc., etc.

There's nothing like he pops and cracks of a well worn LP.

I still buy and play vinyl. I don't consider myself to be a collector, but I do have a pretty large collection.

Gram Parsons! Yeah!

Did he do (m)any LP's with Emmylou?

Still have most of my vinyl only because I can't find some of my old albums on CD (or MP3 Downloads). Thought about running my turntable directly into my MP3 Zoom recorder to convert all the vinyl to digital, but just never seem to find the time. Yes, there's something to be said about that old analog sound, but that sound will remain intact if I record digitally directly from the turntable without "cleaning up" the sound.

Any of you doing any vinyl to digital conversions?

Yes I believe Emmylou appeared as female vocalist on at least 2-3 albums before he died. Emmy's own early to mid 70s releases are nice work as well.

And I have done the conversion to digital and yes the warm cracks are still audible. It takes some work to do the conversion though. Slapping an LP on a turntable is quicker.

Hey, I don't really collect them, but still have a bunch from the late 60s and 70s in a box in the attic. Biggest reason I don't play them anymore is because I don't have a turntable anymore, and haven't had one for years.

Ebay, Goodwill, and good old garage/rummage/yard sales have turned them up a lot, however. How many of you remember this one:

When I was still playing back in the late 70s, my brother-in-law had a copy and requested that my trio learn this one and use it from time-to-to. He gladly gave us the record (on an LP) and we learned it. Our cover of the song went over well no-matter the venue. One problem though -- I left it in the back seat of my car one day, and the western Kansas sun did it no favors. Needless to say, my brother-in-law wasn't too happy, and Vicky and I really felt bad. We looked for years for another to replace it... and finally found one on eBay a few years back and gave it to him (he was a happy man then!).

Anyway, hope I didn't bore anyone too much...

Bill watch the heat in the attic. I lost my first edition Beatles albums and some others as a kid when they melted one summer in the attic. I still have most of my LP collection. My wifes too we merged them together for one big mess. Laughing H I need to get another turntable. Like Mchair there's a lot of my junk that's not on CD. Would be nice to hear it again someday. :D

Glenn,

Thanks for the advice, but I need to clarify that what we call our "attic" is actually just an upstairs bedroom that we store a bunch of stuff. It's temperature controlled, just like the rest of our house. The Star Wars & Star Trek collectibles, a lot of drums, and baseball cards are all up there, too... Some day I'll put it all up for sale...
