You are right John.

Well Okay, i feel better now. Started in 1974, played about 7 or 8 years took about 2 year break. played again for about 3,4 years then the big break, about 25 years off. Started again when I joined VDF, so about 2011? So about 15 years of playing in a 40 year span. I started to feel improvement once I got our old band back together last summer. Jamin with my friends and having fun, not worried about gigging for money, we just hope to play some parties and stuff, for free of course.

Cool thread!

Thank you!

Well seems 1963 was a good time to take up the kit.. That's when I kicked off as well.. I did have around 15 years away from the stage but had kept the kit set up and had a few jams from time to time. Got back into it just a few years ago.. around the time I joined this forum.. Loving it now as much as ever..

Cheers

Same year as the British Invasion! I had only just started playing when the Beatles, Stones, Animals etc. exploded onto the music scene. What the British invasion did for me was to motivate me. When I saw how the girls were screaming and fainting over these musicians, I knew right there and then that, that was what I wanted to be! LOL

John

Too many great drums to list here!

From Dan Boucher

ID4F - Talk about similar beginnings! Good grief, I love the hassock tale. I thought you guys in CA were all on the waves back then and wouldn't have had time for anything else. (Now I'm LOL). I recall having a 16" cymbal from Sears, and guess what, it had a good sound.

Hey Dan!

Too funny!!! Got to love those Sears MIJ beginner snare drum kits and sets!

I started when I was 11 and I am 32 now. I took some breaks when I was in the Army (the whole being in combat in the Infantry in the middle of no where) and also a few years after the Army. I got seriously back into it again about 2009. Although when I was in the Army I did play for church and actually in some places in Afghanistan and Iraq.

once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.
