How Many Years Have You Been Playing Last viewed: 15 minutes ago

Loading...

I started playing in the fall of '77 at the age of 8, so 37 years now. My first kit was a sparkle blue Stewart. None of my kits have been "world's supreme quality" since Laughing H

Seriously though, I feel very thankful that my parents found me good teachers, furnished me with drums, hauled bands around in the station wagon and let our rec room become a rehearsal space. I owe them big time!

What a long strange trip it's been! I'm enjoying your stories! Wayne, I figured you for a young whippersnapper!

funkypoodle-i can relate to your parents being so very supportive to your ambitions even tho` they didn`t understand it?Mine also found a good local drum teacher for me, furnished me with drums, hauled bands around and let our home be a practice pad.And as far as owing them big time goes...consider the debt paid, as they`ve seen how much happiness, drums/music have brought to us.

Ps-i`m still a young whippersnapper in mind and i attribute that to drums and music.

From airborneSFC

I started when I was 11 and I am 32 now. I took some breaks when I was in the Army (the whole being in combat in the Infantry in the middle of no where) and also a few years after the Army. I got seriously back into it again about 2009. Although when I was in the Army I did play for church and actually in some places in Afghanistan and Iraq.

airborne-great that you have hung onto drumming thro` thick and thin all these years-it`s just meant to be a part of you and sounds like it`s not going to go away any time soon. We`re so lucky to have the drum bug, lol.

Started playing in a band when I was 12. I'm 74 now, so 62 years. Still gigging and a session every week. Bought my first base drum at a salvation Army store for $5.00. Took it home on the bus, .05 cents.
