I have no problem with someone buying low and selling high to make a profit. Sure we get upset when we see things parted out, but on the other hand, we get excited when we see that 14x14 we've been needing to complete a kit.
In this case, however, the guy is just a liar and a charlatan. Negotiating a deal is one thing. Flat out lying is just wrong. I am so sorry Al.
What bothers me even more is that I included a full set of Protection Racket bags and one of BFulton's fine refurbished Speed Kings. And then I get to the guy's house (I delivered because of his schedule, "family commitments," and "that awful 405") and see a drum room and a bunch of guitars. He could have easily afforded my original price (although that's not why I'm upset). I should have turned around right then, but I don't think that way … until now. I'll be super gun-shy about making any further sales: He's dirtied the water for everyone.
I wanted to sell these to an up-and-coming drummer I know and was ready to offer easy terms. He couldn't afford anything, but I would rather have given these away than have this happen.

I understand this feels bad, but you shouldn't be too hard on yourself Al, you didn't do anything wrong. So you've been talked into it - we all have at times, for various reasons, and not just about drums. It's just one of those things that happen. I just wish I could buy all of them, then send a pic to let you see that your set is being pampered like a 12-year-old princess with a bad toothache :)

I believe in the old saying" what goes around comes around". Its worse when the item or items have sentimental value.
Parting out kits is one thing... but lying to get your hands on a functional kit is another... I think everyone on here is sympathetic about what this dick has done to you, and by his playing on your good nature... may he get kicked in the nuts by a Siberian Yak...

Yet another example of the vintage drum industry that WE tolerate. Complete and useful sets can only be preserved by expecting buyer AND seller to agree on a concrete price. Otherwise the same set is historically stripped and reassembled....REPEAT!
IMO, after it's gone, it's gone. People who have money and or are good at sales, I'm assumming, are excellent negotiators (maybe sometimes sprinkled with BS?). Too bad you found out they were on eBay. Chalk it up as another lesson learned. Thanks for sharing this and spreading the knowledge.
I believe the only time one can respectfully piece out a kit, is if it was partially burned, destroyed or blown up on stage...lol.
