Naaaa. Don't leave. We all enjoy your input. Chill and remain calm. I just picked up my 12th set and actually have one on the local CL. It's your hobby and if your enjoying it and not hurting anyone don't worry about it. Think of all the joy it has given you and others. Your nice sets you have restored, That Rogers, and the stuff you have done for other members. We like seeing all the pics of your work. Take the weekend off and you'll be ok.

It's just the unlucky number of 13. You need 14 kits to get you back on center. By the way, I have a kit for sale.

once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.

Important to cash out completely. Once you've identified addiction (root word is add), you have to cut it off completely; sell all!

I'd like to help more, but I'm only interested in the following kits and snares at the moment:

68 Rogers (Dayton) black strata. 22.13.16; 20,12,16 or 20,12,14. Must be early strata not later oyster

68 Rogers (Dayton) steel grey rippple 20,12,14

66 Rogers (Dayton) blue sparkle Dayton Powertone snare

Now, once you have kicked it and find you want to enter back in with some level of control, you have to become very objective. That is, set a goal and do not stray. So for example, take a catalog of your favorite drum company and time period. Let's say Rogers just for one way of looking at it objectively: Rogers 1967/68 catalog wrap chart. You can objectively say I have one snare drum or kit from each color group or line horizontally or vertically. If you select horizontal, you can stick to just 5 kits by only having one glass glitter/sparkle one. See what I'm saying?

Then if you get bored you sell one color from that line to get the other. You could chose to change one each year or every six months or whatever suits you. You can also establish a fixed principal to sell high/buy low. That curbs it too and keeps it in control.

There are many objective paths you can take and keep it under control. So again, sell all now and then you can start over with objectivity.

Lots of great advice from everyone Jeff. Yep you can become addicted easily. I think we all go through it at times. I sure do. Lack of money curbs my needs so I just like to look and watch here at everyones new gear. I had 3 vintage kits. Gave 1 to one of my boys. So just the RK's and Rogers project at the moment. As long as I have something to work on I'm content. It's when things are finished and I'm idle is when I start to freak out. And want more stuff. Hey 13 is my lucky number~! Take a break and focus on playing more. You can always sell a few of the ones you don't play much. It's easy to get caught up in it all.

Peace!

Keep just your favourite Treasures and Practice and/ or Play on them!

The Recreation and Statisfaction of just Drumming is more precious than all that Gear, as much as I love all those Kits and Cymbals.

Otherwise they're just "Material". Instruments need to be played in order to keep the Spirit alive!

All the Best,

Lars

PS: I set myself a Limit on three Kits. One for Jazz, one for Rock, one for additional 'Personal Collector's Pleasure'..

Hey Jeff, you're alright! We all have passions. It's what defines us and even makes us interesting and unique. Heck, I have several grand worth of Lionel trains and 3 drum sets---and I'd like more. I learn from these things. Then I can share it and, in the case of drums, hang with cool dudes like you guys here on VDF.

I love collecting drums and trains. I certainly wouldn't call it an addiction. If I took food off my table or ruined my ability to meet my debt, then I'd worry.

Other wise, enjoy. Or, donate a kit to a church or some fledgling band..or sell one and donate to charity. That will make you feel like your passion has benefit to you as well as your fellow man.

Stay here and hang with us. Keep telling us about your drums and what you've learned. Were all better for it. d.The Band

Well, when you offered to do woodworking in exchange for drums on another post I had to chuckle thinking "will work for drums". Actually that's a good idea. Barter to feed your addiction. Drum collecting is a better habit than drugs or booze :)
